1. 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics announced
Roger Penrose of Britain, Reinhard Genzel of Germany and Andrea Ghez of the US won the Nobel Physics Prize FOR 2020.
The physicists were selected for their discoveries about one of the most exotic phenomena in the universe, the black hole.
Andrea Ghez is just the fourth woman to receive the physics prize since 1901 when the first Nobel prizes were handed out.
2. 2020 Nobel Prize for Chemistry
2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna for the development of a method for genome editing.
They have discovered one of gene technology’s sharpest tools: the CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors.
This technology has had a revolutionary impact on the life sciences, is contributing to new cancer therapies and may make the dream of curing inherited diseases come true.

4. Gujarat announces Digital Seva Setu Program
Gujarat Government has announced Digital Seva Setu Programme for the rural areas.
Under this programme, the citizens will be able to get benefit from various public welfare services at the Panchayat level.
Digital Seva Setu has been initiated under the Bharat Net Project- an initiative to connect the Village Panchayats through fibre network.
5. Chhattisgarh to set up Cyber Police Stations
In Chhattisgarh, State Police is planning to set up Cyber Police Stations at each range headquarters to deal effectively with increasing cyber crime.
Recently, a State Cyber Police Station was started at the Police Headquarter in the capital Raipur.
Big cases related to cyber crime will be registered and investigate by this police station.
6. Aequs to invest 33,500 crore in Karnataka
The Karnataka government approved 3540 crore investment by Aequs SEZ Private Limited to develop a consumer electronics and durables goods (CEDG) cluster in Hubballi.
This is India’s first sector-specific investment in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government’s Atmanirbhar or self reliance initiative.
The investment is expected to generate around 20,000 jobs.
7. Atal Adarsha Vidyalaya in Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand government will open two Atal Adarsha Vidyalayas in each of the 90 blocks of the state.
It will give students the option of pursuing their education in both English and Hindi mediums.
The purpose behind opening Atal Adarsha Vidyalayas is to give poor children living in rural areas equal access to quality education.
8. Karnataka to have Cybersecurity Policy
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan said that the government of Karnataka would soon come up with a relevant Cybersecurity Policy.
He stated this while he unveiled the mascots of cybersecurity in an event held at Vidhana Soudha.
It was done during the inauguration of celebrating the October is cybersecurity month which is being observed by the state for the first time.
9. Musk’s SpaceX wins contract from Pentagon
Elon Musk’s SpaceX won a $149 million contract to build missile-tracking satellites for the Pentagon.
Under the SDA contract, SpaceX will use its Starlink assembly plant in Redmond, Washington, to build four satellites fitted with a wide-angle infrared missile-tracking sensor.
Technology company L3 Harris Technologies Inc. received $193 million to build another four satellites.
10. Ravi Santhanam in Forbes list
Ravi Santhanam, CMO, HDFC Bank has been recognized in the Forbes list of ‘The World’s Most Influential CMOS’.
Ranked at Number 39, he is the only CMO of an Indian company to be featured in the illustrious list.
This is the eighth edition of this annual list released by Forbes with research partners Sprinklr and LinkedIn.
HDFC Bank has been adjudged India’s Most Valuable Brand for 7 years.
11. ICG Patrol Vessel ‘Vigraha’ launched
The seventh offshore patrol vessel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), ‘Vigraha’ was formally unveiled at Kattupalli.
The vessel built by Larsen and Toubro is the last in the series of seven OPVs contracted to the company by the Ministry of Defence in 2015.
It was for the first time a private sector shipyard has undertaken the design and construction of offshore patrol vessel class of ships.
12. State Bank of India appoints Chairman
State Bank of India announced the appointment of Dinesh Kumar Khara, Managing Director, State Bank of India as Chairman, State Bank of India, for a period of three years.
Khara, one of the bank’s four managing
directors, replaces Rajnish Kumar, who is due to step down on October 7.
A state-run banks appointment panel in August recommended Khara as the next chairman of SBI.
13. Ubon ropes in Rana Daggubati as ambassador
Gadget accessory and consumer electronics brand Ubon has roped in Rana Daggubati as its brand ambassador to tap into the Southern market.
With the association, the company aims to
leverage the massive appeal the actor enjoys across the southern part of the country.

14. Sanofi India appoints Karandikar as CFO
Drug major, Sanofi India has recently announced the Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting.
They approved the appointment of Mr Vaibhav Karandikar as Chief Financial Officer and Key Managerial Personnel.
He is a Chartered Accountant, a Company Secretary and a Cost Accountant with 25 years’ experience across various domains in Finance.
He joined Sanofi in April 2007.
15. Chetan Anand: Brand ambassador of ‘Transform’
Commonwealth Games medallist shuttler Chetan Anand was named the brand ambassador of India’s first-ever badminton brand ‘Transform’ which was launched virtually on 7th October 2020.
Anand is a former world no.10 and the men’s singles bronze medal winner at the 2006 Melbourne CWG.
‘Transform’ produces racquets, nylon shuttles, shoes, and apparels.
16. JSPL wins GreenTech CSR India 2020 award

17. “Man of the Month” safety awards presented
Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway presented “Man of the Month” safety awards to 45 employees.
He presented the awards during a virtual safety meeting held from Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.

18. IFFCO, Prasar Bharati sign MoU
Prasar Bharati and Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited, IFFCO have signed an MoU to broadcast and promote new agriculture technology and innovations.
According to the agreement, DD Kisan will broadcast various innovative techniques being adopted in the agriculture field in easy language through 30 minutes program series for the benefit of farmers.
19. Govt clears 16 proposals under PLI scheme
The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology has cleared 16 proposals from domestic and international companies entailing an investment of 11000 crore rupees.
It is done under the production linked
incentive, PLI scheme to manufacture mobile phones worth 10.5 lakh crore rupees over the next 5 years.
It will generate more than 2 lakh direct jobs.
20. MA Ganapathy appointed as Dir General, BCAS
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of M A Ganapathy to the post of Director General, BCAS, for a tenure up to his superannuation on February 29, 2024 or until further orders. He is a 1986 batch IPS officer of Uttarakhand cadre.
The post of BCAS chief fell vacant after Rakesh Asthana was appointed as the Director General of Border Security Force in August.
21. National Start-Up Awards-2020
Two Mumbai-based Start-ups were declared winners at the first National Start-Up Awards-2020.
While Taraltec Solutions Private Limited won the award in the Urban Services category, Wealthy Therapeutics won the award in the Health care category.
India is the number three country in the world in terms of number of Start-ups.
22. S Jaishankar holds bilateral meeting
External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo on 7 October 2020.
During the 13th India-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, progress made in India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership was reviewed.
Both the Ministers welcomed the finalization of the text of Cyber Security agreement.
23. Actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd passes away
Actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd has passed away at the age of 70 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The death is the result of an apparent shooting, the Atlanta Police Department told media source in a statement.
Thomas Jefferson Byrd was an American character actor who played in several of director Spike Lee’s films.
24. India’s 1st awards for startups announced
The government of India announced the winners of its maiden national awards for startups and incubators.
A number of startups from 12 different sectors received the national award from commerce minister Piyush Goyal.
The winning startup founders got a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, the incubators and accelerators got Rs 15 lakh as the winning amount.
25. Virat Kohli 1st Indian to reach 9000 T20 runs
Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to reach 9000 runs in T20 cricket.
He achieved this milestone in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) match against Delhi Capitals in Dubai, Match No. 19 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
He is placed seventh in the list of all-time scores in T20s with Chris Gayle leading the list.
26. India launches Dolphin safaris in river Ganga
The National Mission for Clean Ganga launched Dolphin-based ecotourism programme, including Dolphin safari, at six sites in three states.
These states are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
The ‘Ganga Praharis’, trained volunteers will take the tourists at these sites on boat rides to view Dolphin in the Ganga river.
Besides, a new campaign, ‘My Ganga My Dolphin, was also launched.
