1. 3 Win Nobel Medicine Prize 2020
Three scientists won the Nobel Prize in medicine for discovering the liver-ravaging hepatitis C virus which causes severe liver disease.
Americans Harvey J. Alter and Charles M. Rice and British-born scientist Michael Houghton were honoured for their work over several decades on an illness that still plagues more than 70 million worldwide and kills over 400,000 each year.
2. Centre disburses nearly Rs. 20,000 crores
The Centre disbursed nearly Rs. 20,000 crore among the states from the amount collected as compensation cess this year.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made the announcement to this effect after the 42nd GST Council meeting.
Finance Minister informed that the Centre will also disburse Rs. 25,000 crore towards Integrated GST for 2017-18 to those states that received less amount.
3. 3 external members appointed in RBI’s MPC
The central government has appointed three external members to the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India after the four-year tenure of the earlier nominees ended in September 2020.
Ashima Goyal, Jayanth R. Varma and Shashanka Bhide will be the three government nominees joining the RBI governor Shaktikanta Das.
Members of the MPC are not eligible for reappointment.
4. India successfully tests SMART
India successfully tested the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system for the first time from a defence facility off the Odisha coast.
Developed by DRDO, SMART is a missile assisted release of lightweight anti-submarine torpedo system for Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations far beyond torpedo range.
The launch demonstrated India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
5. Min of Health & Family Welfare had conference
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey and United Kingdom’s Minister of State for South-East Asia Affairs Lord Tariq Ahmed discussed bilateral relations in the health sector of the two countries through video conference on 5 October 2020.
The two Ministers discussed in detail the current status of the COVID-19 vaccine, its efforts to reach the public.
6. Infosys completes acquisition of GuideVision
Infosys has completed the acquisition of Czech Republic-based GuideVision.
GuideVision is an enterprise service management consultancy specialised in offering strategic advisory, consulting, implementations, training and support on the ServiceNow platform.
Through the acquisition, Infosys further enhances its digital capabilities, strengthens Infosys Cobalt portfolio of cloud services.
7. Afghanistan batsman Najeeb Tarakai passes away
Afghanistan batsman Najeeb Tarakai passed away on after a tragic road accident.
The 29-year-old opening batsman was hit by a car while crossing the road in eastern Nangarhar in Jalalabad.
Najeeb Tarakai has played 12 T20ls and one ODI for his country.
He made his international debut at the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
8. 12th BRICS Summit to be held on November 17
The 12th BRICS Summit will be held on 17th November 2020 via video conference.
The theme of the Meeting of the Leaders of BRICS countries which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is “BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Shared Security and Innovative Growth”
The Summit this year is being held under the Chairmanship of Russia.
9. Quad Foreign Ministers held discussions
Foreign ministers of all four Quad countries – India, USA, Japan, Australia, met in the Japanese capital Tokyo on 6 October 2020.
External Affairs Ministry said Foreign Ministers will discuss the post-COVID-19 international order and the need for a coordinated response to the various challenges emerging from the pandemic.
This is the second such Quad foreign ministers meet, first was in 2019.
10. India, Myanmar to operationalise Sittwe port
India and Myanmar have agreed to work towards the operationalisation of the Sittwe port in the Rakhine state in the first quarter of 2021.
The announcement came after the conclusion of the two-day long visit of COAS General M M Naravane and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla to Myanmar on 4-5 October. Both sides agreed to further strengthen their partnership.
11. India hands over Remdesivir to Myanmar
Indian Army chief Gen. M M Naravane and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla handed over 3,000 vials of Remdesivir to Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
The intravenous antiviral drug, Remdesivir, is used to treat COVID-19.
Gen. Naravane and Shringla are in Myanmar on a two-day visit to Myanmar with an aim to further expand ties.
12. ISLRTC & NCERT to inked MoU
A historic MoU was signed between Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center and NCERT to make education materials accessible for Deaf children in their preferred format of communication.
Educational print materials including NCERT Textbooks, Teachers Handbook of Class I-XII of all subjects of both Hindi and English Medium will be converted into Indian Sign Language in Digital format.
13. Hardeep Singh Puri addresses webinar
Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri addressed a webinar on the occasion of World Habitat Day 2020.
He said the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations member states is a guiding document for a planet and people.
He said, 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets reflect the collective vision which needs to be achieved by the year 2030.
14. Former Judge AS Dave passes away
Justice Anantkumar Surendraray Dave, a former judge and Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court has passed away.
Prior to his retirement, Justice Anant Dave had served as an Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court before present Chief Justice Vikram Nath took over the helm.
He has also served as a Solicitor at the Gujarat High Court.
15. India, Israel to continue cooperation
India and Israel on 5 October 2020 agreed to continue and advance bilateral cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus with emphasis on technological cooperation and tests.

16. MOHUA enters into MoU with Swiggy
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has entered into an MoU with Swiggy, to onboard street food vendors on its e-commerce platform.
The MoU aims at giving the street food vendors online access to thousands of consumers and help them grow their businesses.
The arrangement has been facilitated under the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNibhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme.
17. L&T Construction bags contract
Larsen & Toubro construction arm has secured a repeat engineering, procurement and construction order from Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department in Gujarat.
The Tapi-Karjan pipeline link irrigation project will irrigate 16,919 hectares of command area in the districts of Tapi and Surat.
It will lift 14.2 cubic metres per second of water from the Ukai reservoir.

22. Dr Reddy’s Joins SBTi
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) business ambition for 1.5 degrees celsius.
By doing this, it has become the first Indian and third Asian pharmaceutical company to minimise environmental impact.
The company has committed to reducing its scope one and two greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 55% by 2030 from an FY 2017-18 base year.
23. New family of bony fish discovered
Scientists from India, Germany, United Kingdom and Switzerland have discovered a new family of bony fish from the Western Ghats and named it Aenigma Channidae.
Results of this study were published in Scientific Reports, the open-access mega-journal of the Nature Publishing Group.

24. Naval Investiture Ceremony held
Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain FOC-in-C Eastern Naval Command conferred Gallantry and non-Gallantry Awards announced on the Republic Day to meritorious personnel.
