1.Government promulgated two ordinances

President Ram Nath Kovind has promulgated the two ordinances with an aim of giving a boost to rural economy and to help farmers.

These are The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020.

Recently, these two ordinances were approved by the Union Cabinet.

2.A National awareness campaign launched

Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched a national awareness campaign on Prevention of Human and Animal Mortality on Highways.

The country witnesses nearly five lakh road accidents every year, in which about

1.5 lakh lives are lost.

The Ministry is endeavouring to bring down these figures by 20 to 25 per cent by March 2021.

3. Urban Forest Program launched

Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Urban Forest program on the occasion of World Environment Day, today.

Despite all constraints, the country has managed to preserve around 8 per cent of the world’s biodiversity through its rich culture.

In the initial phase, under this program, forests will be developed in 200 corporations and cities in the country.

4. Delhi-based NGO won WHO award

WHO has conferred the World No Tobacco Day Award 2020 to the Socio Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS), an NGO.

It was awarded for its efforts to ban pan masala, gutkha, e-cigarettes and hookah in Bihar and Jharkhand.

It has been working closely with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on prevention and control of smokeless tobacco use.

5. UK hosted virtual global vaccine summit

The UK organised the Global Vaccine Summit 2020 on June 4, 2020 to lend its support to secure £6 billion funding to aid global virus vaccine supply and immunisation.

The virtual event witnessed represent natives of over 50 countries and country leaders, including Indian PM Narendra Modi.

The summit pledged its support to Gavi, the global vaccine alliance.

6.Mastercard launched digital payment solution

Mastercard India, Axis Bank Ltd and Worldline India, have partnered to launch a digital point-of-sale solution, Soft POS.

It will help offline merchants and Kirana stores accept payments using their smartphones

The solution allows merchants to accept payments through various digital form factors including Bharat QR, sending payment links to customers and even accept NFC-based payments.

7. Pritam Singh passed away

Acclaimed management guru and Padma Shri awardee, Pritam Singh passed away in June 2020.

He served as an independent director in several private companies and was a former director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Lucknow.

He is author of seven books, over 50 research papers and was regarded as a pioneer of management education in India and abroad.

8. Kerala implements ‘Food forest’ project

On World environment day, Kerala’s first ‘food forest’ is being prepared at tribal belts of Attapady in Palakkad district.

It is a part of the Tribal Comprehensive Development Programme in Kerala and is being implemented in cooperation with the Mahila Kissan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana of the Central Government.

. The project aims to provide food security to 192 tribal villages in Attapadi.

9. Rahul Shrivastava: Next Ambassador to Romania

Rahul Shrivastava, a senior diplomat has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Romania.

Rahul Shrivastava, an Indian Foreign Service officer of 1999 batch.

He is at present serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

10. UN Russian Language Day: 6 June

UN Russian Language Day is celebrated on 6 June every year.

The United Nations marks the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, recognized as the father of Russian literature, on this day.

UN Russian Language Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010.

Russian is the most widely spoken Slavic language.

11. India, China agree for peaceful discussion

India and China have agreed to handle their differences through peaceful discussion

Joint Secretary (East Asia) in Ministry of External Affairs Naveen Srivastava held talks with Wu Jianghao, Director General in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs through video conference on 5 June 2020.

The two sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations including the current developments.

12. Ayush Ministry launched a competition

Ayush Ministry has launched the My Life, My Yoga international video-blogging competition on 5 June 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ had informed that the competition would be open for everyone across the globe.

To participate in it, participants have been asked to post their videos of up to three minutes on social media accounts by tagging the Ministry of Ayush.

13. Hardeep Singh Puri launched three advisories

Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri has launched three advisories on the occasion of World Environment Day

These advisories are- Advisory on Mate rial Recovery Facilities for Municipal Solid Waste, Advisory on Landfill Reclamation and a Draft advisory on On-site and Off-site Sewage Management Practices.

14. The ‘#iCommit’ initiative launched

Power Minister RK Singh initiated the ‘#iCommit’ campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day.

It is driven by Energy Efficiency Services Limited

It can bring together a diverse spectrum of government and private players to build a new energy future for India.

The initiative is centred around the idea of building an energy resilient future.

15. Govt promulgated ordinance to amend a Code

Union Government has promulgated an ordinance to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

Under it, fresh insolvency proceedings will not be initiated for defaults due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Default on payments from 25th of March 2020 will not be considered for initiating insolvency proceedings for a certain period of time.

16. Abu Dhabi company to invest in Jio

Abu Dhabi sovereign fund Mubadala Investment Company will inject Rs 9,093.6 crore in Jio Platforms in exchange for 1.85 percent

It is the 6th investment in the RIL digital unit.

The investment by Mubadala, which manages about $229 billion in assets, at an equity value of Rs 4.91 lakh cr and an enter prise value of Rs 5.16 lakh crore, takes the total amount raised by Jio to Rs 87,655.35 cr.

17. RBI to set up 500-cr fund

The RBI has announced the creation of a 500 car Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF).

It will encourage deployment of Point of Sale (POS) infrastructure in tier-3 to tier-6 centres and the North-East.

The PIDF will be governed through an Advisory Council and managed and administered by the RBI.

18. Adidas: Manushi Chillar as brand ambassador

The Indian arm of Adidas has announced the appointment of former Miss World Manushi Chillar as its new brand ambassador.

She will lead Adidas’s mission to inspire more women to embrace fitness, while creating a positive social impact through the power of sport.

Chillar joins other Adidas ambassadors including Ranveer Singh, Rohit Sharma, Hima Das, and over 20 other top athletes.

19. India to host 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup

The Asian Football Confederation has awarded the hosting rights of the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup to India for the first time since 1979.

The decision was taken at the AFC Women’s Football Committee meeting.

In February 2020, the AFC Women’s Football Committee has recommended India to be hosts.

The tournament will likely be held in the second half of 2020.

20. Tech Mahindra signed an Initiative

Tech Mahindra has signed a joint declara tion with UN Global Compact urging gov ernments to align their COVID-19 recovery efforts with the latest climate science.

Furthermore, the company has also adopted a low emission technology path to increase the use of renewable energy from

1.7% in 2016 to 18% in 2020.

It has also set targets to increase the renewable source of energy to 50% by 2025.

21. HDFC Bank launched summer treats

HDFC Bank has announced a special Summer Treats campaign with offers for both merchants and, salaried and self-employed customers.

As part of the campaign, the bank will offer no cost EMI and no down payment for large appliances, discounts and cashbacks on select brands and 50 per cent extra reward points on online spend using credit cards.

22. Kushal Pal Singh retired as Chairman of DLF

DLF on June 4, 2020 appointed vice chairman Rajiv Singh as the new chairman of the company, replacing KP Singh.

The latter will continue in a non-executive role as Chairman Emeritus.

KP Singh, Non-Executive Director/ Chairman of the company, was at the helm of the affairs for over five decades.

DLF is headquartered in Delhi, India.

23. “Thank Mom” drive started in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, a plantation drive named “Thank Mom” has been started on the premises of Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Directorate from 5 June 2020.

All the plants which are planted during this period are being fitted with a plaque in the name of the mother of each employee.

The employees will take care of the plant just like their own mother.

24. Gujarat Aatmanirbhar package announced

Gujarat govt has announced a Gujarat Aatmanirbhar package worth Rs 14,000 cr to help individuals, industries and businesses in the state.

The package gives relief worth Rs 2,300 cr by partially waving off property tax, electricity bill and motor vehicle tax for individuals, commercial establishments and industrial entities.

The govt is also giving subsidies worth Rs 3,038 cr to industries.
