1. Rafale to feature in IAF Day parade
India’s newly acquired Rafale aircraft will be the centre of attention of Indian Air Force Day 2020 parade.
The parade will see 56 aircraft of the IAF take to the skies. One Rafale aircraft will team up with two Jaguars and two Mirage 2000s in one display.
Five of the 36 multi-role Rafales acquired by India in a multi-billion dollar deal arrived at the Ambala Air Force Station in July’20.
2. Paytm launches its own mini app store
Paytm has launched a mini-app store to support Indian developers.
The mini-app store will help developers take their products to the masses and is providing listing and distribution of these mini-apps within its app.
More than 300 apps, including Decathlon, Ola, Rapido, Netmeds, 1MG, Domino’s Pizza, FreshMenu, NoBroker, have joined the Paytm app store.
3. MHFI and AIIMS doctors launch web portal
The Mental Health Foundation of India (MHFI) has launched an exclusive web portal for comprehensive mental health care (MİHOPE).
It will focus on the treatment of mental illness for the people.
The web portal is all set to become functional from October 10, 2020, and people can access it online consultations with support from doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
4. Krishnapatnam port acquisition complete
India’s largest private port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has completed the acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port Co Ltd (KPCL) for an enterprise value of 12,000 crores.
This will result in APSEZ having a 75% controlling stake in KPCL.
On 3 January 2020, APSEZ had signed a deal to buy the port for an enterprise value of 313,752 crores.
5. Joyville to invest 1,200 cr on a project
Shapoorji Pallonji’s mid-income housing platform Joyville will invest around 31,200 crores to develop a new residential project in Pune.
This is the fifth project of Joyville and second in Pune property market.
The project ‘Joyville Hadapsar Annexe’ will be developed in phases, with the first one comprising 600 units to be sold at 37.5 lakh onwards.
6. World Teachers’ Day: 5th October
According to UNESCO, the World Teachers Day is held annually on October 5 since 1994.
The day is co-convened in partnership with the UNICEF, ILO and Educational International.
The day is observed to celebrate the teachers all over the world and appreciate their efforts.
For 2020, the World Teachers day theme is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”
7. 42nd GST Council meeting
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 42nd GST Council meeting in New Delhi on 5 Oct 2020.
The meeting will be attended by Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories.
In the last meeting of GST council, Centre had given two borrowing options to States to meet GST compensation requirement for the current financial year.
8. Karnataka Minister CT Ravi resigns
Karnataka Minister for Kannada, Culture, and Tourism CT Ravi has tendered his resignation, days after being appointed BJP national General Secretary.
The four-time MLA from Chikkamagaluru submitted his resignation on 3 Oct 2020 to CM BS Yediyurappa.
He was appointed to the party position at the national level on September 26, 2020.
9. Madhu Mahajan: Special Expenditure Observer
Election Commission has appointed Ex IRS officer Ms Madhu Mahajan and B. R Balakrishnan as Special Expenditure Observers for General Election to Legislative Assembly of Bihar, 2020.
Special Expenditure Observers in consultation with the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar will be supervising and monitoring the work being done by the electoral machinery.
10. Dr Jitendra Singh releases Coffee Table Book
Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Jitendra Singh has released a Coffee Table Book on Discovering the Heritage of Assam.
The foreword is by Amitabh Bachchan and the book has been published by Penguin.
It presents an absorbing compilation of heritage, faith, beliefs and traditions of different ethnic tribes and subtribes living in the largest State of the North East.
11. Gujarat govt to provide subsidised food grain
Gujarat Govt will provide subsidised food grain to additional 10 lakh families under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
With this, all NFSA benefits will be available to 50 lakh poor citizens.
All divyangs, widows and old-age pension scheme beneficiaries will also get benefits of NFSA.
All these beneficiaries will get 5 kg food grains per month including 3.5 kg wheat and 1.5 kg rice.
12. Vishnu Shivaraj Pandian wins gold
India’s Visnu Shivaraj Pandian won the 10m air rifle event at the fifth edition of the International Online Shooting Championship on 3 Oct 2020.
Vishnu shot 251.4 to win the title by a clear margin of two points.
The second place was won by world no. 27 Etienne Germond of France while Olympic quota winner Martin Strempfl of Austria took the third place.
13. 56th Anniversary of ITEC Day-2020
The Embassy of India in Nepal marked the 56th Anniversary of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day-2020 on 3 Oct 2020.
It organised a webinar on “Sharing Knowledge and Experiences on COVID-19 Management”.
ITEC is India’s flagship capacity building assistance initiative with near-global coverage to 160 developing countries, including Nepal.
14. Army Chief on a two-day visit to Myanmar
Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Naravane and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla are on a two-day visit to Myanmar which began on 4 Oct 2020.
The delegation called on the State
Counsellor of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi and Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The visit will provide an opportunity to take stock of the existing bilateral ties.
15. Phoolbagan Station inaugurated
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal virtually inaugurated the Phoolbagan Station of Kolkata East-West Metro corridor.
He flagged off the 1st train from there to Salt Lake Sector-V.
The entire stretch of the corridor, connecting Sector-V and Howrah Maidan, is likely to be completed by Dec 2021.
By the end of 2021, the entire East-West Corridor project of 16.55 km is expected to be completed.
16. Rs. 1082 crore paid to over 41,000 farmers
Around Rs. 1082 crore was paid to over 41,000 farmers for procurement of paddy on Minimum Support Price.
As on 3 Oct 2020, a cumulative procurement of Paddy in this Kharif Marketing Season is over 5,73,000 tonnes.
Paddy procurement for 2020-21 has commenced across the procuring States.
The Procurement of seed cotton, Kapas during Kharif Marketing Season 2020-21 has started from 1st Oct’20.
17. India exceeds 140/day per million COVID tests
India has exceeded the 140 per day per million COVID tests as advised by the WHO, by nearly six times.
In its Guidance Note on Public Health Criteria to Adjust Public Health and Social Measures in the Context of COVID-19, the World Health Organization has advised that a country needs 140 tests per day per million population for comprehensive surveillance of suspected cases.
18. PM Modi inaugurates ‘RAISE 2020’ Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Summit RAISE 2020 – ‘Responsible Ai for Social Empowerment 2020 on 5 Oct 2020.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and NITI Aayog are organizing the Mega Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence.
It will go on till 9 October 2020.
The summit will discuss cross-sector subjects like ‘Leveraging Al for Pandemic Preparedness!
19. India-US to sign BECA
India and US will sign the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) for geo-spatial cooperation during the India-US plus two dialogue which is expected to take place on October 26-27.
BECA is important for India to acquire armed drones such as the MQ-9B from the US.
BECA will allow India to use global geospatial maps of the US for accuracy of cruise and ballistic missiles.
20. Sergio Garcia wins PGA Masters
In Golf, Sergio Garcia won the PGA Tour for the first time since the 2017 Masters.
· Garcia beat Peter Malnati with a birdie on the final hole to notch his 11th PGA Tour title at the Country Club of Jackson.
India’s Anirban Lahiri had a tough time at the Country Club of Jackson, carding a five-over 77 in the third round to slip to T-52.
21. Yashaswini wins gold in online shooting
Indian Olympic quota winner Yashaswini Singh Deswal won the 10m air pistol event in the fifth edition of the International Online Shooting Championship (IOC).
The 23-year-old, world No 4 shot a score of 241.7 to win the title by a clear margin of 3.1 points.
Yashaswini, who had won a gold at 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, shot the best qualification score of 577.
22. Romelu Lukaku wins UEFA Europa League
Inter Milan Romelu Lukaku won the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League Player of the Season award.
The 27-year-old finished ahead of Bruno Fernandes and Ever Banega to win the fourth edition of the award, which was announced during the UEFA Europa League group stage draw in Nyon.
His Belgian international team-mate Eden Hazard collected the gong last season.
23. Village monographs developed in Hyderabad
A first-of-its-kind integrated and comprehensive development tool, ‘village monographs’ is launched by the Gramodaya Chamber of Commerce and Technology (GCOT).
GCOT is a non-profit Social Enterprise, founded by Osmania University alumni in Hyderabad.
The ‘village monograph’ provides the basic information needed for planning, program implementation, and understanding the villages.
24. Punjab CM launches construction of stadiums
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh digitally launched the construction of 750 rural stadiums and playgrounds in the state.
The 750 stadiums are being built at a cost of Rs105 crore in rural areas under the state government’s rural transformation strategy and ‘Tandrust Punjab Mission!
The government has set a target of a minimum of five stadiums per block to be completed in 2020-21.
25. ‘Bapu – The Unforgettable’ book launched
On the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia launched a coffee-table book” Bapu – The unforgettable”.

26. Bronze Statue Of Mahatma Gandhi Inaugurated
On the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a bronze statue of Bapu was inaugurated in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The statue was inaugurated jointly by Indian Ambassador Partha Satpathy, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova, Deputy Minister for Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Vitrenko and Professor Petro Bekh, Vice-Rector, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
27. CSC Partners With HelpAge India
The Common Services Centre (CSC), a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, has partnered with HelpAge India to provide digital literacy to citizens above the age of 55 years through a pilot project in selected states.
The move is aimed at digital inclusion and literacy of the rural elderly.
The MoU is rolled out under the project ‘Aalambana’ of HelpAge India.
28. IIT Kharagpur launches telemedicine software
IIT Kharagpur launched a telemedicine software which facilitates critical health care support to patients at their doorsteps through remote consultation by a physician.
The system iMedix is accessible by any standard internet browser and also from a mobile device.
In this system, a patient signs up to get an account by providing his/her Email ID or mobile number.
29. Pradeep Maharathy passes away
Former Odisha Minister and BJD MLA from Pipili Pradeep Maharathy passed away in Oct 2020.
He was testing positive for coronavirus on September 14, 2020.
Maharathy served as Agriculture, Panchayati Raj and Fisheries Minister in the Naveen Patnaik government.
A seven-time MLA from Pipili, Maharathy started his political career as a student leader.
