1. Satish Prasad Singh passes away
Former Bihar CM Satish Prasad Singh passed away in Nov 2020. He was the CM of Bihar in 1968 for only five days. Singh had served as the state chief minister for five days, between January 28 and February 1, 1968. He was elected to the 7th Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Parliament of India) from the Khagaria constituency of Bihar in 1980 as a member of the Congress Party.
2. World Tsunami Awareness Day: 5 November
The World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed every year on November 5 with an aim to formulate strategies to save more lives in view of future disasters. The theme for 2020 is focused on ‘Sendai Seven Campaign’ which is aimed at reducing disaster losses. In the past 100 years, 58 tsunami events have caused over 260,000 fatalities or on an average 4,600 lives were lost per disaster.
3. lvory Coast President wins third term
Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has won a controversial third term in office in an election boycotted by the opposition. He took 94% of the vote, even winning 99% in some of his strongholds. Main opposition candidates Pascal Affi N’Guessan and Henri Konan Bédié got 1% and 2% respectively, while a fourth candidate, Kouadio Konan Bertin, also got 2%.
4. ADB approves USD 132.8 mn loan
The Asian Development Bank has approved USD 132.8 million loan. It will improve and upgrade the power distribution network in Meghalaya. The Meghalaya cabinet had in August 2020 approved a proposal from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to avail a Rs 1,345.72 crore loan for clearing the power outstanding dues.
5. Torres and Jones 1st gay black man in Congress
Ritchie Torres, a Democratic congressional candidate from New York, made history on election night when he was elected as the first openly gay Black man in Congress. Torres, who defeated Republican candidate Patrick Delices, is heading to the House to represent the South Bronx.
6. Rutuja Bhosale beats Siskova to win ITF title
Rutuja Bhosale won a singles title by beating Anna Siskova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It was the third singles title in the professional circuit for Rutuja. The former Asian junior champion and National women’s champion, Rutuja, has also won 14 doubles titles in the professional circuit.
7. KL Rahul and Veda Krishnamurthy conferred Ekalavya Award
Indian cricketer KL Rahul was awarded by the Karnataka Government the Ekalavya Award. The Ekalavya Award is given by the Karnataka state government for outstanding performance in sports. Veda Krishnamurthy, the Indian Women Cricket team’s batting all-rounder, has also been conferred with the prestigious Ekalavya Award.
8. Stubble burning: Pusa bio-decomposer successful
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said “Pusa bio-decomposer” was successful in Delhi and the city government will inform the Supreme Court that it is an effective way to prevent stubble burning. Delhi has found a cheap solution to the problem of crop residue burning. Pusa bio-decomposer is a solution developed by the scientists at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
9. AEL plans 50,000 cr capital expenditure
Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) has a 50,000-crore capital expenditure plan to fund its new businesses over the next five years. Out of this, over 735,000 crores will be infused into its airports division. The acquisition of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports will be finalized in the next few months and latest by March 2021.
10. Canada reports rare strain of swine flu
Canada has reported the country’s first case of a human infected with the H1N2 virus, a rare strain of swine flu. The case was detected in the western province of Alberta in mid-October 2020. This is the only influenza case reported in Alberta so far this flu season. The H1N2 strain is not a food-related illness and it is not transmissible to humans by eating pork or other pig products.

12. Kalapahar Covid Care Hospital inaugurated
In Assam, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Kalapahar COVID Care Hospital in Guwahati on 4 Nov 2020. The hospital has a 160-bed capacity. It is equipped with all modern equipment and facilities including ICU with oxygen support, ventilator facility, dialysis unit, laboratory and x-ray services. It will provide round the clock health services by the specialists.
13. 3-day policy discourse begins in Maharashtra
A three-day policy discourse titled ‘Panorama: Envisioning Film, Media & Entertainment Policy for Maharashtra’ began from 5 Nov 2020. The aim is to establish Maharashtra as a film making and media entertainment hub. The event is being organized by Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited under the State Department of Cultural Affairs.
14. Free Distribution Camp of assistive aids
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot has virtually inaugurated a Free Distribution Camp of assistive aids and devices. It is for identified Divyangjans of North Mumbai. A total of 1,740 aids and assistive devices worth 88 lakh rupees will be distributed phase-wise among the pre-identified beneficiaries through such camps.
15. Toll free tele-education helpline number
In Assam, the Education Department has launched a toll-free tele-education helpline number for government school students. The helpline number is to guide 6th to 10th Standard students on subject matters and psychosocial aspects. The facility would be extended to other students too. The toll-free number is 18003453578. It would work on all 6 days except Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
16. COVID-19 testing lab at Hyderabad Airport
In Telangana, a COVID-19 testing laboratory has been set up at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. The airport has partnered with an ICMR-certified laboratory called, Mapmygenome, for setting up the laboratory which will operate 24/7 for passengers and airport personnel. The tests will be RT-PCR based, with the help of swabs and result will be available in 4-6 hours.
17. Bangladesh, US launch joint naval exercise
The Bangladesh and US Navies launched the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Bangladesh-2020″ on 4 Nov 2020. It will expand relationships and broaden maritime awareness between the two countries. The sea phase of the exercise will take place in the Bay of Bengal with ships from both countries. The events are designed to enhance interoperability between the two navies.
18. Prasar Bharati to launch education TV channels
Prasar Bharati has entered into an MoU with Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Under the MoU, 51 DTH education TV channels will be available as DD co-branded channels to all DD Free Dish viewers. The aim is to bring quality educational programmes to every household, including those in rural areas.
19. “Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge’ launched
Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge. The challenge is being conducted with the support of the Bernard van Leer Foundation, Netherlands with technical support from WRI India. The challenge will be open to all Smart Cities, other cities with more than five lakh population, and capitals of States and Union Territories.
20. ISRO to launch Earth Observation Satellite
The Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO has scheduled the launch of the Earth Observation Satellite EOS01 on 7 November 2020. Nine other customer satellites will also be carried into space by the workhorse launch vehicle PSLV-C49. The mission will be performed from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in southern Andhra Pradesh, close to Chennai.
21. Arbitration and Conciliation Ordinance, 2020
President Ram Nath Kovind has promulgated the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020. It will further amend the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996. The Ordinance aims to ensure that all the stakeholders get an opportunity to seek an unconditional stay of enforcement of arbitral awards where the underlying arbitration agreement are induced by fraud or corruption.

23. China’s Fosun Kicks Off Biggest Pharma IPO
Gland Pharma Ltd. and its shareholders are looking to raise as much as 64.5 billion rupees ($871 million) in what would be India’s biggest initial public offering by a pharmaceutical firm. The company and existing holders including Fosun Pharma Industrial Pte. are selling as many as 43.2 million shares in the offering according to terms of the deal obtained.

26. Actor Faraaz Khan,dies at 50
Actor Faraaz Khan, who was batling for his life in a Bengaluru hospital after suffering seizures due to herpes infection in brain, has passed away aged 50. Khan was an Indian film actor who was seen in some popular Bollywood films in the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as Fareb and Mehndi. Khan was signed for a debut lead role in the 1989 musical-romance Maine Pyar Kiya.
27. Veteran actor H G Somashekhara Rao passes away
H.G. Somashekhar Rao Film and theatre actor 86, passed away. Son of a freedom fighter, he hailed from Chitradurga and was the elder brother of veteran actor H.G. Dattatreya (better known as Dattanna). He debuted in 1975 as a character actor in Geejagana Goodu and went on to work in over 50 films.
28. Luke appointed New Zealand batting coach
Former wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi has been appointed New Zealand batting coach for the upcoming summer. He replaces the post left vacant by Peter Fulton in July. 30. Second batch of 3 Rafale fighter jets arrives
The second batch of Rafale jets the first western combat aircraft to join the fleet 23 years after the Sukhoi aircraft from Russia has arrived in India. The jets had covered the 7,000-odd km flying non-stop from France, the IAF posted after the three aircraft landed. The induction of all 36 jets will be completed by 2023, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria has said.
31. Startups jump 57% under PM Modi’s pet scheme
The Modi government’s flagship scheme to promote the Indian startup ecosystem Startup India has witnessed a 57 per cent growth in the number of government-recognised startups. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the number has jumped to 39,114 startups as of November 3, 2020, according to the data from the Startup India portal.
32. Rare and Endangered Black Tiger Caught
An extremely rare black tiger has been spotted in Odisha. The formal name of the tiger is Melanistic Tiger. This rare animal is only available in Odisha and if experts are to be believed then there are only seven to eight of them that are left in the entire state. The black stripes on the tiger are because of a genetic defect. With this defect, the animal has thick black stripes.
33. Centre forms committee to review guidelines
The Centre constituted a four-member committee, headed by Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi S Vempati, to review the guidelines on television rating agencies in India. The government has asked the panel to submit its report to the Information and Broadcasting minister within two months. Committee constituted in the wake an alleged Television Rating Points (TRP) scam.
34. Pinaka Rocket System successfully test-fired
An advanced version of India’s Pinaka rocket system was successfully flight tested from Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. A total of six rockets were launched in succession using Pinaka, indigenously developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This advanced version has a longer range with reduced length compared to Mk-1, its earlier.
35. NGT notices 18 states & UTs
National Green Tribunal issued notices to 18 states and Union Territories where air quality is beyond norms. The NGT has already issued notice to Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel. The state governments of Odisha and Rajasthan have already issued a notification prohibiting the sale and use of firecrackers.
36. OYO Elevates COO Ankit Tandon To Global CBO

37. German shoe company shifts from China to Agra
Von Wellkx, a German shoe brand operating earlier from China, operationalized two shoemaking units in Agra. The company, which is collaborating with latric Industries Pvt Ltd, had announced in May that it would be shifting its entire production of three millions pairs of shoes from China to India. The group will invest around Rs 300 crore in phases in three projects in Uttar Pradesh.
38. Mumbai gets Rs 244 crore from Centre
Under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) as per recommendations by the 15 finance commission, the Centre has allocated the biggest share of INR 396.5 crore to Maharashtra. Out of which INR 244 crore will be provided to Mumbai, from the total of INR 2,200 crore to all states, to improve the air quality in its cities. Maharashtra has six cities which featured in the list.
39. 1st South Asian to be elected to the NYSA
38-year-old Indian-American lawyer Jenifer Rajkumar has become the first South Asian woman to be elected to the New York State Assembly. Democrat Rajkumar has defeated her Republican rival Giovanni Perna. Rajkumar will represent New York City in the New York State Assembly, representing the 38th Assembly district, which includes Woodhaven, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Glendale.
40. Zohran Kwame Mamdani wins NY Elections
Zohran Kwame Mamdani, the 29-year-old son of Indian American filmmaker, Mira Nair, and Ugandan academiciarn Mahmood Mamdani made history. Zohran has become one of the first South Asians to win a seat in the New York State Assembly. Zohran is an Indian-Ugandan-American politician, housing cournselor, and hip-hop artist.
41. UNGA adopts two India sponsored resolutions
The first committee of the United Nations General Assembly has adopted two India-sponsored resolutions on nuclear disarmament which aim to reduce risk of nuclear accidents and call for a prohibition on the use of nuclear weapons. 42. Tamil Nadu CM launches 3 mobile Amma Canteens
Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami has inaugurated three mobile Amma Canteens which will provide food at a subsidised price in the city. The mobile Amma Canteens will function from 7 am to 10 am in the morning for breakfast, with idly costing Hs 1 and Pongal costing Hs 5 on the menu Lunchtime will be from 12 pm to 3 pm with sambar rice, lemon rice and karuvepillai rice for Rs 5 each.
43. Cabinet approves Rs 1810 crore proposal
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the investment of Rs1810.56 crore. It is for 210 MW Luhri Stage-I Hydro Electric Project located on river Satluj which is situated in Shimla &Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh. This project will generate 758.20 million units of electricity annually. This project is being implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL).

Microsoft is collaborating with Eros Now, a leading South Asian streaming entertainment service owned by Eros STX Global Corporation. It will deliver content to customers in low internet geographies of India. By using this system, consumers in low connectivity regions could access Eros Now’s rich media content and pay for services in modes they prefer.
45. A Maharashtra villager awarded
The Union Ministry of Water Resources has declared an award for a villager of Sangli Sampatrao Pawar for his contribution to the revitalization of the Agrani River. He was the first person to come up with the idea of re-circulating the river which had disappeared due to mud, soil and bushes. Agrani is a tributary of Krishna river originating from Tamkhadi village of Sangli district.
46. Marlon Samuels retires from cricket
West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has retired from professional cricket. Samuels, who top-scored in both of their World T20 final victories, last played for West Indies in December 2018 against Bangladesh. Across formats, he scored 11134 international runs including 17 centuries and scalped 152 wickets. He also represented several T20 franchises around the world.
47. ESR India to invest ₹4,310 cr in Maharashtra
ESR India has signed an agreement with Maharashtra government to invest ₹4,310 crores to set up 11 industrial and logistics parks around Mumbai and Pune. This affliation is aimed at encouraging industrial development in the state with streamlined land acquisition and administrative processes. These parks, once fuly operational, have the potential to create over 35,000 jobs in the state.
48. Niraj Antani: 1st to be elected to Ohio Senate
Niraj Antani has created history by becoming the first Indian-American to be elected to the Ohio state Senate. Antani, currently the State Representative, defeated Mark Fogel of the Democratic Party and was elected as the state Senator for the Ohio Senate’s 6th District. Antani was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2014, becoming one of the youngest state lawmakers in the US.
49. Odisha reconstitutes State Board for Wildlife
The Odisha Govt has reconstituted the ‘State Board for Wildlife!’ It is for effective implementation of wildlife projects and Scientific Management of protected areas, informed the Forest and Environment department. 50. Visa partners with DigitSecure and HDFC Bank
Visa has announced the first successful live deployment of a PCI certified Tap to Phonecard acceptance solution, in partnership with DigitSecure and HDFC Bank. DeliveryPlus is the first merchant to go live with HDFC Bank as an acquirer. This solution enables merchants to securely accept contactless card payments in seconds through an app on their NFC-enabled Android smartphones.
