1. President honours 3 RPF personnel

3 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were honoured by President Ram Nath Kovind with Jeevan Raksha Medals.

Late Jagir Singh, constable, Northern Railway, was posthumously awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak.

Shiv Charan Singh, constable, Western Railway was awarded the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.

Mukesh Kumar Meena was also awarded the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.

2. Rajasthan Govt inks MoUs in various sectors

The Rajasthan govt has entered into an MoU with a private company for the development of facilities related to the aviation, defence and textile sectors.

The MoU is estimated to bring in an investment of Rs 4,000 crores and generate employment in the state.

The company, SVP International Group, has proposed to develop a project for defence and aerospace including aircraft maintenance.

3. Odisha Govt approves 7 investment proposals

The Odisha govt has approved seven investment proposals worth Rs 3,205.67 crores in different sectors.

These were approved at the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) meeting.

The proposals which were approved are from the infrastructure, tourism, metal, among other sectors.

Apart from this, proposal for setting up a Flue Gas Desulphurization Plant (FGD) was also approved.

4. Murali Ramakrishnan: MD, CEO South Indian Bank

South Indian Bank said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Murali Ramakrishnan as its MD and CEO with effect from October 1, 2020.

Ramakrishnan had retired from ICICI Bank as

Senior General Manager at Strategic Project Group on May 30, 2020.

He joined the South Indian Bank as an advisor on July 1, 2020.

5. Government appoints first CEO in rail history

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the restructuring of Railway Board.

It has appointed Vinod Kumar Yadav as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Board.

Yadav is currently the chairman of Railway Board.

There will be four other members, who will be in charge of – infrastructure, rolling stock, finance and operations and business development.

6. 10-member Biodiversity Council set up in J&K

The J&K govt has set up a 10-member council for the conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of its components in the Union territory.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests will

be the chairman of the 10-member panel, which will include 5 non-official members.

The Director of the Forest Research Institute, J&K, will serve as the member secretary of the council.

7. Assam Assembly passes a bill

The Assam Assembly has passed a bill to protect, preserve and restore tangible heritage, which is currently not covered under any national or state law.

The passage of the Assam Heritage (Tangible) Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Maintenance Bill, 2020 was termed as historic by CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

It is a step towards implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

8. Shivaji takes up India’s top statistical post

The Govt has appointed Kshatrapati Shivaji as a secretary in the Ministry of Statistics and

Programme Implementation from Sept 1, 2020.

He is a 1986-batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer.

The secretary at this ministry is, by design, known as the chief statistician of India.

But he has only been given additional charge and the government has not appointed a full-time chief statistician yet.

9. S Krishnan: MD & CEO of Punjab & Sind Bank

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of S Krishnan as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Punjab & Sind Bank.

He will replace S Harishankar.

ACC has given permission to S Harishankar to voluntarily retire with effect from the date of notification of the acceptance.

Prior to this, S Krishnan was the Executive Director at Canara Bank.

10. Former cricketer David Capel passes away

David Capel, the former cricket all-rounder who played 15 Tests and 23 one-day internationals for England from 19871990 passed away in Sept 2020.

Capel made 270 first-class appearances for Northamptonshire from 19811998

He became the first cricketer born in the county to play a Test for England in 77 years when he made his debut against Pakistan in July 1987.

11. Economic Advisory Council of 15th FC

The Economic Advisory Council of the 15th Finance Commission met on 4 September 2020.

Chairman N K Singh chaired the day-long meeting.

The meeting was for a final discussion on GDP growth, tax buoyancy of the Centre and the States, GST compensation, revenue deficit grant and fiscal consolidation.

The members of the Economic Advisory Council also attended the meeting.
