1. Fund for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission
Centre has approved 445 crore rupees for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Chhattisgarh during 2020-21.
The aim of the mission is to provide adequate potable drinking water of prescribed quality on a regular and long-term basis to every rural household of the country by 2024.
Chhattisgarh has planned to have 100 Per cent Functional Tap Water Connection by 2023-24.
2. IMF approved $732 mn assistance to Bangladesh
The IMF Executive Board has approved an emergency financial assistance worth dollar 732 million for Bangladesh to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country
The assistance is provided under the Rapid Credit Facility and Rapid Financing Instrument provisions of the IMF.
The money will help Bangladesh to meet its health, social protection and macro-stabilization measures.
3. Ajit Jogi passed away
First CM of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi passed away in May 2020.
A bureaucrat-turned politician, Jogi had served as the first CM of Chhattisgarh from November 2000 to November 2003 in then Congress government.
Jogi parted ways with the Congress in 2016 after he and his son got embroiled in a controversy over a by-election.
Later, he quit the Congress and formed Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J).
4. Wipro to get first non-Indian CEO
Wipro has named former Capgemini executive Thierry Delaporte as its new CEO, the first non-Indian to head a homegrown IT services company.
Delaporte will take over as CEO and MD on July 6, 2020, replacing incumbent Abidali Neemuchwala.
Delaporte was till recently chief operating officer at Capgemini.
Aiman Ezzat took over as CEO of Capgemini recently.
5. Missile Park ‘Agneeprastha’ to be set up
Foundation Stone for a Missile Park “AGNEEPATH” was laid at INS Kalinga by Cmde Rajesh Debnath, Commanding Officer on 28 May 20.
The park will be dedicated to all the Officers, Sailors and Support Staff of INS Kalinga, who have served in this premier op-support Base since its establishment in 1981.
The park aims to capture glimpses of Missile History of INS Kalinga since 1981 till date.
6. Meeting of BRICS Heads of Tax Authorities held
The meeting of the Heads of Tax Authorities of the BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa was held on 29 May 2020.
The meeting was hosted by the Federal Tax Service of Russia, which currently holds the BRICS Presidency.
It discussed the response of BRICS Tax Authorities to the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore potential areas of cooperation in tax matters.
7. CIPET has been renamed
Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) has been renamed as Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET).
It is a premier national institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.
The changed name has been registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 1975).
8. Largest electric aircraft: Cessna Caravan
The world’s largest all-electric aircraft completed its first successful flight on 28 May 2020.
The Cessna Caravan aircraft is retrofitted with an electric engine and flew for about 290km before landing safely in Moses Lake.
The plane holds a seating capacity of nine passengers.
The aircraft can cruise at 183 kph.
9. Vakrangee announced tie up with LIC of India
Vakrangee has announced a tie-up with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
It will distribute Micro Insurance products through Nextgen Vakrangee Kendra network.
Vakrangee shall provide the Solicitation and sale of the LIC’s micro insurance products.
Tie-up with LIC will support especially in unserved and underserved areas.
10. US joined G7 artificial intelligence group
The US has joined an international panel for setting ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence.
The partnership was launched on 28 May 2020 after a virtual meeting between national technology ministers.
The Trump administration had been the lone holdout among leaders of the Group of Seven, the world’s wealthiest democracies, in setting up the Global Partnership on Al.
