1. Birth anniversary of Gandhiji and Shastriji
The nation paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 151st birth anniversary on 2 October 2020.Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary is also observed as the International Day of non-violence.The nation also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 116th birth anniversary.Both the leaders had served the nation with exceptional dedication.
2. International Day of Non-Violence: 2 October
October 2 is marked as the International Day of Non-Violence every year by the United Nations, i.e. on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Mahatma Gandhi gave the world the philosophy of non-violence or Ahimsa.The UN General Assembly in a resolution on 15 June 2007, commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as the International Day of Non-violence.
3. Bengal Peerless: Sourav Ganguly as ambassador

4. Lab to be set up to compare COVID-19 vaccines
Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) has set up a global laboratory network to assess data from potential COVID-19 vaccines,This will allow scientists and drugmakers to compare them and speed up the selection of the most effective shots,The centralised network is the first of its kind to be set up in response to a pandemic.
5. SBI appoints former EY partner Attra as CFO
SBI has appointed Charanjit Surinder Singh Attra as its chief financial officer, an outcome of its recent lateral hiring exercise. He is the former partner at EY India.Lateral hiring is the process of recruiting an expert for a specific role from another organization.Chalasani Venkat Nageswar, a deputy managing director at SBI was given the additional role as CFO earlier.
6. Andhra and UP get additional borrowing limit
The states of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have been granted an additional borrowing limit of Rs 7,106 crore.UP has been permitted to borrow Rs 4,851 crore on account of One Nation One Ration Card System (ONORCS) reforms under the PDS.Andhra Pradesh will be allowed to undertake open market borrowings of another Rs 2,252 crore for making the state more investor and business-friendly.
7. Rana Ayyub to be honoured
Rana Ayyub, the award-winning investigative journalist will be honoured on 10 October 2020 for her “tenacious reporting on the rise of authoritarian Hindu nationalism”.She will be honoured by the Muslim Public Affairs Council, a US-based non-profit that works to promote pluralism.In February 2020, she won the 2020 McGill Medal for journalistic courage.
8. ‘Gandhi Filmotsav’ concludes
As part of the grand finale of two years celebration of Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary, Films Division has organized ‘Gandhi Filmotsav’ which concluded on 2 Oct 2020.The online film festival was streamed on its Website and YouTube Channel from 26th September 2020.It had begun with an animation film, Vaishnav Jan To…, a pictorial reflection of the bhajan immortalized by Mahatma Gandhi.
9. UP: 1st to undertake over 1 cr corona tests
UP has achieved a landmark in the testing of COVID samples by becoming the first state in the country to undertake over one crore tests to screen Coronavirus.The government has conducted 1.5 lakh tests per day for the past 45 days.As on 30 Sept 2020, the total number of tests conducted in state stood at 10098896 as per official data released by the State Medical Education Department.
10. Mumbai ranks 2nd in crimes against women
According to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Mumbai recorded 6,519 cases, after Delhi at 12,902 cases during the year 2019.However, there has been a drop of 1.5 per cent in crimes in Maharashtra.In the year 2019, the state recorded 3.41 lakh cases, down from 3.46 lakh in 2018.The city has ranked first in cases of insult to women’s modesty at 575.
11. Odisha released a postcard “Jau Kandhei”
On the occasion of World Postcard Day on 1 October, the Chief Postmaster General, Odisha Circle, has released a picture-postcard named Jau Kandhei on the theme Traditional Toys of India.10 other postal circles across the country have also released similar postcards on the same theme.The objective is to promote the artisans making traditional toys in Odisha and other parts of the country.
12. Intensive Community Survey Campaign
In Chhattisgarh, an Intensive Community Survey Campaign is being conducted from 2 Oct 2020 onwards to control the spread of Corona infection. The survey will conclude on October 12, 2020.Under this door to door survey, symptomatic patients of COVID-19 will be identified in rural and urban areas of the state.Detailed guidelines have been issued to the collectors in this regard.
13. Tamil Nadu joins ‘ONORC’ scheme
Tamil Nadu has joined the states in implementing the One Nation One Ration Card scheme.Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy distributed ration articles to three cardholders in Chennai as a token of inaugurating the scheme.The One Nation – One Ration Card scheme has come into force initially in 32 districts in the state including in Chennai since 1 October 2020.
14. ASCON Phase IV Network to be established
The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the proposal for the establishment of Army Static Switched Communication Network, ASCON Phase IV Network.It will be implemented at an estimated cost
of over Rs 7,796 cr with an implementation schedule of 36 months from the date of signing of the contract.Optical Fibre Cable, Microwave Radio and Satellite will be used as communication media.
15. 100-days campaign launched
A 100-days Campaign has been launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti under the Jal Jeevan Mission.It will provide potable piped water supply in Schools and Anganwadi Centres.The campaign was announced by PM Modi while releasing the ‘Margdarshika’ for Gram Panchayats and Paani Samitis for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and unveiling of Logo of the mission on 29 September 2020.
16. Largest market of tribal products launched
Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda launched India’s largest handicraft and organic products marketplace – Tribes India E-Marketplace on 2 Oct 2020.It will showcase the produce and handicrafts of tribal enterprises from across the country.He also flagged off several other initiatives which include the inauguration of Tribes India’s 123rd and 124th outlets in Rishikesh and Kolkata.
17. PM Modi to inaugurate VAIBHAV Summit
PM Modi inaugurated Vaishvik Bhartiya Vaigyanik, VAIBHAV Summit on 2 Oct 2020 through video conferencing.The VAIBHAV Summit is a global virtual summit of overseas and resident Indian researchers and academicians.The aim of the summit is to bring Indian origin luminaries in academic institutes and R&D organizations across the world and resident counterparts on a single platform.
18. Renovated Bapu Museum inaugurated
Andhra Pradesh CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the renovated Bapu Museum in Vijayawada on 1 Oct 2020.It has been renovated at a cost of Rs 8 crore and consists of seven galleries.As many as 1,500 historical attractions have been displayed in the two-storeyed museum,Reddy also unveiled a sculpture of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of Indian flag, in the museum.
19. IDBI Bank enables document embedding feature
IDBI Bank has become the 1st lender to enable document embedding feature on a structured financial messaging system managed by Indian Financial Technology and Allied Services.Indian Financial Technology and Allied Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RBI. This has been done in an effort to further digitise the financial transactions and to secure the financial communication system.

22. Goa Government announces a Programme

23. Vijai Vardhan is new Haryana chief secretary
The Haryana govt has appointed senior IAS officer Vijai Vardhan as the new chief secretary.
Vardhan replaces Keshni Anand Arora, who retired on Sept 30, 2020. He will be the 34th chief secretary of Haryana since it was carved out as a separate state in 1966.
Currently, Vardhan is the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Home, Jails, Criminal Investigation and Administration of Justice Dept.
24. Agnikul signs deal with Alaska Aerospace
Chennai start-up Agnikul Cosmos has entered an agreement with Alaska Aerospace Corporation to test launch the Indian-made rocket ‘Agniban’.
The tests will be conducted in 2022 in the United States’ Alaska from the Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska (PSCA) on Kodiak Island.
Agnikul Cosmos, the IIT Madras incubated start-up, was launched by Srinath Ravichandran and Moin SPM in 2017.
25. Nation world’s longest high altitude tunnel
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the world’s longest high altitude tunnel, the Atal Tunnel, at Rohtang.
It is built at an altitude of 10000 feet.
The 9.2 km long highway tunnel has been constructed at an estimated cost of 3,200 crore rupees.
The tunnel will prove to be beneficial for the development of the tribal area of Lahaul-Spiti.
26. CM e-launches sports and youth projects

28. SBI, HUL tie up

29. Hero MotoCorp appoints BS Dhanoa as director
The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has appointed Air Chief Marshal (Retd) BS Dhanoa as a non-executive and independent director on the company’s board with immediate effect.
Dhanoa served as the Chief of the Indian Air Force from January 1, 2017 to September 30, 2019.
The company has also appointed Sanjay Bhan as Head of Global Business.
30. Crisil Research launches benchmark index
To assess the performance of Alternate Investment Funds, Crisil Research launched benchmark indices for the industry.
The indices will cover all three Alf categories and provide investors with a metric to compare the performance of a scheme with the peer set.
Crisil Research is the research arm of domestic rating agency Crisil.
31. Devyani Appointed Ambassador To Cambodia
Devyani Uttam Khobragade has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Cambodia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
Khobragade is a 1999-batch Indian Foreign
Service officer and is presently a Joint Secretary in the ministry.
She is expected to take up the assignment shortly, according to the MEA.

Google India has partnered with third-party online platforms such as Instamojo, Zoho, Swiggy and Dunzo to help small and medium businesses (SMBs) build their digital presence.
They will provide additional support to small businesses to start accepting orders online and enable delivery logistics.

33. Mahindra appoints Mohit as Executive VP
Diversified conglomerate Mahindra Group has appointed Mohit Kapoor as Executive Vice-President and Group Chief Technology Officer.
Kapoor will be responsible for driving the group’s ambitious technology transformation agenda and will report to Anish Shah, Deputy Managing Director and Group CFO, Mahindra Group, a release said.

34. NCRB data: 7% rise in crimes against women
Crimes against women increased 7.3% from 2018 to 2019, and crimes against Scheduled Castes also went up 7.3% in the same period, according to the annual National Crime Record Bureau’s “Crime in India” 2019.
In terms of absolute numbers, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of cases both these categories.
Assam reported the highest rate of crimes against women (per lakh population).
