1. National Voter’s Day: 25 January

The National Voter’s Day (NVD) is celebrated across the country on 25 January every year. It aims at encouraging, facilitating, and maximizing enrolment, especially for the new voters. The day marks the foundation day of Election Commission of India. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the National Awards for the year 2020-21 and launched ECI’s Web Radio: ‘Hello Voters’ on the occasion.

2. Uttar Pradesh celebrated its foundation day

Uttar Pradesh celebrated its foundation day on 24 Jan 2021. The theme of the day was ‘Self-reliant Uttar Pradesh: Women, youths, Farmers: Development of all, Honour to All, Sabka Vikas Sabka Samman’. A huge exhibition on the theme of ‘One District One Product’ is also being displayed at Gautam Budh Nagar in NCR. An app of the MSME department ‘Udhyam Sarthi ‘ was launched on this occasion.

3. Himachal Pradesh celebrates statehood day

Himachal Pradesh celebrated its golden jubilee statehood day on 25 January 2021. It was on this day in 1971 Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state of India. The ‘golden jubilee’ of the statehood would be celebrated around the year by organizing 51 programs in various parts of the state. ‘Swarnim Rath Yatra’ will also be carried out to showcase the development journey of the state.

4. Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

32 children have been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for 2021. The Government has been conferring the awards to the children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievement in the fields of innovation, sports, arts and culture, social service, and bravery. Seven children have won the award in the sports category and three children have been felicitated for bravery.

5. Govt extends Ayushman Bharat scheme to CAPF

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the Ayushman CAPF health scheme in Guwahati for about 28 lakh Central Armed Police Forces and their families. It has been launched in all the states where Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is operational. The primary aim of the PMJAY scheme is to provide health coverage to approximately 50 crore citizens of India.

6. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari selected for an award

Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society and Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari have been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar. They have been selected for their excellent work in Disaster Management. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh rupees and a certificate in case of an institution and Rs 5 lakh and a certificate in case of an individual.

7. Dhaka International Film Festival concludes

The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) concluded on 24 Jan 21. During the 9-day long festival, 226 films from 73 countries were shown. Kyrgyz film ‘The Road to Eden’ jointly directed by Bakyt Mukul and Dastan Zhapar won the best film award at the festival. In the Asian competition section, the Best Director award was given to Ksenia Langutina for the film Farida.

8. Joint Steering Committee meeting held

19th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee on India Bangladesh cooperation in the energy sector was held in Dhaka on 23 Jan 2021. The meeting discussed the status of the 1320 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project at Rampal. The Indian delegation was led by the Power Secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai while Power Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman represented the Bangladesh side at the meeting.

9. Bangladesh to launch vaccination drive

The COVID vaccination campaign will be launched in Bangladesh on Jan 27, 2021. The programme will be launched with the administration of the vaccine to a nurse at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka. 500-600 health professionals of five hospitals of Dhaka will be given the vaccine on an inaugural day. After observing them for a week, the next round of listed people will get the vaccine.

10. UP govt to provide free coaching for exams

UP govt will provide free coaching to students preparing for various competitive exams like JEE, NEET, NDA, CDS, and UPSC. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the launch of an ambitious, state-wide, free coaching facility – ABHYUDAYA from Feb 2021. In the first phase, it will start in 18 divisional headquarters of the state, where coaching will be imparted physically and virtually.

11. New scheme initiated in Rajasthan

A new scheme has been initiated in Sirohi, Rajasthan to make people aware of the importance of nourishment for pregnant women and children. The scheme is called ‘Ek Paudha Suposhit Beti Ke Naam’. It has been started under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme of the union government. Under this, on the birth of a girl child, a drumstick plant will be distributed by the district administration.

12. IISM branch in Kargil inaugurated

In Kargil, the Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated a branch of the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (ISM), on 24 Jan 2021. The Union Minister had come to participate in various events regarding the celebration of the National Tourism Day with National Events of Adventure Tourism (NEAT). The Minister also visited Maitreya Buddha Statue at Mulbekh.

13. MP: 1st to get additional funds for projects

MP has become the first state to get additional funds for capital projects for successfully carrying out reforms in various citizen-centric areas. The Dept of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance has allocated additional 660 crore rupees to the state for capital expenditure for undertaking the One Nation, One Ration Card Reforms, Ease of Doing Business Reforms, and Urban Local Bodies Reforms.

14. Ladakh tableau to participate in R-Day parade

A tableau from Ladakh will participate in the Republic Day Parade for the first time. Ladakh’s tableau depicts the Thiksey Monastery located in Thikse in Leh district and is one of the most-visited tourist sites in the region. It also showcases the Indian Astronomical Observatory, located in Hanle near Leh, one of the world’s highest sites for optical, infrared, and gamma-ray telescopes.

15. GPS, panic button mandatory in Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, GPS and panic buttons will be installed in all public passenger vehicles for the safety of women passengers. A tracking device and command center will be set up to monitor the vehicles. The GPS and panic button has been made mandatory by the central government in public passenger vehicles. All GPS will have two SIMs so that it remains connected to the network.

16. Special COVID Awareness Campaign in Hyderabad

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy inaugurated Special COVID Awareness Campaign in Hyderabad on 23 Jan 2021. He flagged off 8 Mobile Publicity Vans which will hold multi-media publicity about COVID vaccination in 8 COVID intense districts of Telangana including Hyderabad. The Minister also inaugurated a photo exhibition in connection with Parakram Diwas and COVID vaccination.

17. SpaceX creates new world record

SpaceX created a new world record launching 143 satellites on a single rocket, on 24 Jan 2021. SpaceX has beaten ISRO’s record of deploying 104 satellites in a single launch in February 2017. The launch vehicle for the SpaceX record-breaking flight was the Falcon 9 rocket. The 143 satellites launched include commercial and government CubeSats, microsats, and 10 Starlink satellites.

18. 51st IFFI concludes at Panaji in Goa

The 51st edition of the International Film Festival of India, IFFI concluded on 24 Jan 2021. ‘Into the Darkness’, a film from Denmark won the prestigious Golden Peacock award. Indian personality of the year award was given to the veteran actor Biswajeet Chatterjee. Actress Zeenat Aman and Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishen were also felicitated for their contribution to films.

19. UP RERA slaps Rs. 2.5 cr penalty on 11 developers

The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) of UP has imposed a penalty of Rs. 2.5 cr on 11 developers for non-compliance with its past orders issued in favor of homebuyers. The authority has levied a penalty of Rs. 46 lakh on Newtech Promoters & Developers Pvt. Ltd, Rs. 34 lakh on Supertech Ltd., Rs. 57 lakh on Lucknow Development Authority, Rs. 30 lakh on Tulsiani Construction and Developers Pvt. Ltd, etc.

20. National Girl Child Day: 24 January

The National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24th January. It is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The objective behind celebrating the day is to provide all support and opportunities to the girls of the country. It also aims towards promoting awareness about the rights of the girl child and to increase awareness on the importance of girl’s education.
