1. IOC increases Olympic Solidarity fund
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has agreed to increase the budget of Olympic Solidarity for the period 2021 to 2024 by 16 percent. IOC will further strengthen its support to athletes, NOCs and Continental Associations of NOCs. The budget for 2021-2024 will now be a total of USD 590 million. The IOC has also decided to give a 25 per cent increase for athlete support programmes.
2. ‘I Am No Messiah’ To Release In Dec
Actor Sonu Sood who is been dubbed as
the Messiah of the migrant for his relentless services towards the people and society is all set to pen his autobiography. The actor’s autobiography will be titled ‘I am no Messiah! The book will be co-written by Meena Iyer. The book is published by Penguin Random House India.
3. 12 Nov: World Pneumonia Day
World Pneumonia Day is marked every year on 12th November. Raise awareness about pneumonia, the world’s leading infectious killer of children under the age of 5. This day was first established in 2009 to raise awareness about this condition.
4. Aung San Suu Kyi’s party returns to power
Myanmar’s ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party has secured enough seats in parliament to form the next government. Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy has won 346 of the 412 seats. It was the only second such vote since the end of military rule in 2011.
5. Renowned cartoonist Trailokya Dutta Dies
Renowned cartoonist and painter from Assam Trailokya Dutta passed away at 90. Born in 1930 at Ratanpur village in the Bajali area of Barpeta district, Trailokya Dutta did his first box cartoon or pocket cartoon for the Dainik Asom newspaper titled ‘Kahudi’. He was awarded with Bishnu Rabha award, Amulya Kakati Award, and Sonit Konwar Gajen Baruah award.
6. Inauguration of 12-Feet Tall Air Purifier
East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir inaugurated a first-of-its-kind giant air purifier in Gandhi Nagar. The 12-feet-tall air purifier will cover an area of 1,000 square metres and deliver 2 lakh cubic metre of clean air. The Gautam Gambhir Foundation has funded the purifier. In January, Mr Gambhir had inaugurated a first-of-its-kind smog tower in Lajpat Nagar’s Central Market as a pilot project.
7. Dutch Students Build Electric Car from waste
Dutch students have created a fully functioning electric car made entirely out of waste. Including plastics fished out of the sea, recycled PET bottles and household garbage. The bright yellow, sporty two-seater which the students named ‘Luca, can reach a top speed of 90 kilometres (56 miles) per hour. The car was designed and built by a group of 22 students in around 18 months.
8. Khan appointed Pakistan men’s batting coach
Younis Khan has been put in charge of overseeing batting development in the men’s team. While Arshad Khan has been named the women’s team’s bowling coach. Extended contract till 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
9. Uttar Pradesh to launch Mission Rozgar
The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is going to launch a campaign to provide employment to 50 lakh youths in the state by the end of March. The campaign which has reportedly been named “Mission Rozgar” is scheduled to be launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath post-Diwali. Mission Rozgar will be run under the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner.
10. Singapore has announced a work Visa
Singapore announced a new work visa for
foreign executives of technology firms, a sector the low-tax global business hub hopes will power future economic growth. Under the Tech Pass programme launching in January, up to 500 experienced executives can apply for the two-year visas. Which allow participants to operate a business, invest in or become a director.
11. Murugappan steps down as chairman of group
Three companies of the Rs 38,105-crore Murugappa Group announced that M M Murugappan stepped down as the chairman and director as he turned 65. Cholamandalam Investment, Tube Investments of India, and Coromandel International were the three firms to inform the stock exchanges of the resignation. Vellayan Subbiah to take over as chairman of Cholamandalam Investment.
12. Karnataka to borrow ₹7,438 crore
The Karnataka government would borrow Rs 7438 crore to fund the 148km suburban rail project across Bengaluru. The state cabinet has approved the proposal to borrow the amount through a special purpose vehicle as part of the state’s share in the Rs 18,600-crore suburban rail project. The central and state governments will also contribute Rs 2,479 crore respectively to the mega project.
13. Maha Governor releases book “Majhi Bhint”
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari released the book ‘Majhi Bhint’ (My Wall) authored by former Maharashtra minister of education Rajendra Darda at Raj Bhavan. The book is a compilation of Darda’s selected Facebook posts pertaining to a range of issues written over the last four years. Darda is the Editor-in-Chief of Lokmat Media.
14. Odisha govt launches SAANS
The Odisha Government launched Social Awareness & Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) programme. To reduce child mortality owing to pneumonia, which contributes to around 15 per cent of deaths of children under the age of ve annually. SAANS was launched by the state Health Department to mobilise people to protect children from pneumonia.
15. Bollywood actor Asif Basra dies
Bollywood actor Asif Basra was found dead in Himachal Pradesh’s Mcleodganj. Basra, who began his film career in 1998, was known for starring in popular movies such as Jab We Met ‘Kai Po Che! Asif Basra had also played an important role in National Award-winning Gujarati film ‘Wrong Side Raju’ (2016).
16. PUBG Developers Announce A Special Version
PUBG Mobile developers announced that they plan to launch a new game called ‘PUBG Mobile India’ that will be specifically created for Indian users. PUBG and its parent company KRAFTON are planning to invest worth $100 million in India to cultivate an ecosystem around the local video game, e-sports, entertainment, and IT industries. The Indian government banned PUBG Mobile back in September.
17. Noida: Anti-smog gun installed at Sector 6
The Noida authority has installed anti-smog gun in Sector 6 Udyog Marg, one of the key roads in the city, to mitigate air pollution. The authority is likely to install more anti-smog guns at traffic intersections to reduce air pollution caused out of vehicular emission and traffic congestion. The authority has already installed 30 anti-smog guns at big construction sites across the city.
18. TCS acquires Pramerica Services unit
India’s Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. agreed to acquire Pramerica Technology Services from insurance giant Prudential Financial Inc. TCS and the Newark, N.).-based life insurer signed the agreement for the Letterkenny, Ireland-based tech-services business. No cash will change hands and TCS will take on more than 1,500 Pramerica employees.
19. New genus of treefrog discovered
A new genus of the old world treefrog family has been discovered in the Andaman Islands and Northeast India. For the first time a tree frog species, Rohanixalus vittatus (Striped Bubble-nest frog), is reported from the Andaman Islands of India. The new genus Rohanixalus is named after the Sri Lankan taxonomist Rohan Pethiyagoda.
20. Chhattisgarh CM Inaugurates New Tehsils
Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated 23 new tehsils in 15 districts of the state and said that the move would improve revenue administration and accelerate the development Works. Common people would be able to access administration facilities more conveniently. Besides, farmers and beneficiaries of public welfare schemes would be able to avail better services.
21. Zoho Corporation partners with TCS
Zoho Corporation partners with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to help provide better customer relationships and IT service management as well as e-commerce solutions for large corporates. The partnership will allow global enterprise entities to realise new revenue opportunities, gain operational efficiency, and drive business success from anywhere, whether remote, in-office.
22. Rs 900 crore for COVID vaccine research
Finance Minister Nirmala announced Rs 900 crore funding for vaccine resea rch in the country. The amount provided for COVID Suraksha Mission for research and development of the Indian COVID vaccine to the Department of Biotechnology. This funding is part of the Rs 2.65 lakh crore Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 stimulus.
23. Kadapa tops in water conservation list
Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh has topped the country in water conservation and bagged the national award under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan for the year 2019. The award, instituted by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, was presented by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu. Kadapa topped the list with 84.84 marks followed by Sangareddy in Telangana with 77.75 and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu with 69.79.
24. FM announces fertilizer subsidy
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a Rs 65,000-crore fertilizer subsidy for farmers as part of her stimulus package. It is being provided to ensure adequate availability of fertilisers to farmers in the upcoming crop season. An additional outlay of Rs 10,000 crore will be provided for PM Garib Kalyan Rozgar Yojana in the current financial year.
25. Odisha Signs MoU With World Fish
The government of Odisha signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WorldFish to introduce fish and fish-based products in the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) for a period of five years. The SNP is for children (aged between 3 to 6 years), pregnant, nursing women and adolescent girls belonging to the lower-income group. It aims to improve health and nutritional status.
26. Haryana CM unveils ‘Project Air Care’
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal unveiled ‘Project Air Care’. 65 Wind Augmentation Purifying Units will be installed across Gurugram through a public-private partnership. He also inaugurated a project for the beautification of the Gateway of Gurugram on the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road. The Chief Minister also announced a proposal to set up a new Municipal Corporation in Manesar.
27. SmartHub Merchant Solutions 3.0 by HDFC
The HDFC Bank launched SmartHub Merchant Solutions 3.0, the country’s first comprehensive banking and payment solution for merchants. This solution allows merchants and self-employed professionals to instantly open a current account and start accepting payments in-store, online, and on-the-go. It was launched at a virtual event held in Mumbai.
28. China’s Chen wins ITTF Women’s World Cup
World number one Chen Meng beat Chinese compatriot Sun Yingsha to win her maiden ITTF Women’s World Cup title in Weihai. Chen’s victory at the bio-secure Weihai Nanhai Olympic Center made her the first winner of the ITTF’s #RESTART series. She also took her tally of senior singles titles to 19. Japan’s Mima Ito took the bronze medal after beating Han Ying of Germany in straight games.
29. IIT-G, Oz University launch water centre
IIT-Guwahati, along with the University of Western Sydney and 21 partners from India and Australia, launched India-Australia Water Center. The water centre will be led by the University of Western Sydney and IIT -G. It focuses on collaboration in transdisciplinary research, capacity building and knowledge and technology transfer, particularly on aspects of water and food security.
