1. Mithali: 1st woman to score 10,000 runs

Captain of the India women’s team, Mithali Raj on 12 March 2021 became the first woman cricketer from the country and only the second overall to score 10,000 international runs. Mithali Raj, playing her 212th ODI for India, achieved the landmark during the third match of the bilateral series against South Africa.

2. Jharkhand’s Simdega to host 2 hockey events

For the first time, Jharkhand’s Simdega is hosting two back-to-back national events that started on 10 March 2021. Hockey India sub-junior women’s national . championship-2021 is being held at Simdega AstroTurf Hockey Stadium during March 10-18, while the junior national women’s championship will take place during April 3-12, 2021 at the same venue. There will be 26 teams in each of those events.

3. Railways ensures 100% compliance of payment

Indian Railways has ensured 100 per cent compliance of payment of minimum wages to contract workers through the e-application Shramik Kalyan Portal. Rs. 3,49,590 lakh of wage amount and about 6 crores man-days were registered on Indian Railway Shramik Kalyan e-application as on 9 March 2021. Indian Railway Shramik Kalyan e-application was developed and launched in October 2018.

4. US blocks Turkey’s helicopter sale to Pakistan

The United States has prevented Turkey from supplying 30 locally made attack helicopters to Pakistan. The ATAK-12 is a twin-engine, tandem seat, multi-role, all-weather attack helicopter based on the Agusta A129 Mangusta platform and is equipped with American engines. Turkey and Pakistan had signed a USD 1.5 billion deal for the Turkish-made helicopter gunships in July 2018.

5. Karnataka CM unveils ‘Xcelerator Bengaluru’

Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has unveiled ‘Xcelerator Bengaluru’ to help women entrepreneurs grow across the state. The initiative will help 50,000 women entrepreneurs across the state to grow their business over the next 3 years. Ubuntu Consortium and the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) have jointly developed the Xcelerator Bengaluru.

6. Aquaconnect partners with Bank of Baroda

Aquaconnect has partnered with Bank of Baroda, India’s leading public sector bank, to pave the way for access to formal credit for 1.6 million aquaculture farmers. Under this partnership, Bank of Baroda has extended loan for up to 10 lacs under KCC scheme and fisheries loan. Higher credit limits can also be availed under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

7. Tata Motors launches ‘Wheels of Love’

Tata Motors has announced the launch of ‘Wheels of Love’. It is a holistic programme that supports new parents in their exciting journey both as a parent and also as a valued employee while promoting a progressive culture of care, inclusion and sensitization within the organization across levels. Amongst the key aspects covered in the programme is Employee Resource Groups, etc.

8. Cholamandalam, Karur Vysya Bank join hands

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance company has inked a partnership with Karur Vysya Bank for co-lending business, eyeing to garner a larger market share across segments. It would significantly help Cholamandalam and Karur Vysya Bank to expand the reach to new customer segments across the country. It will allow both the companies to use an effective composite risk management framework.

9. IDBI Bank out of PCA framework

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken out IDBI Bank from the prompt corrective action (PCA) framework, subject to certain conditions and continuous monitoring. The bank was put under PCA framework in May 2017, slapping curbs on expansion, investments and lending. The bank is not in breach of the PCA parameters on regulatory capital, net NPA and leverage ratio.

10. 27th “Hunar Haat” being organised at Bhopal

The 27th “Hunar Haat” is being organised at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh) from 12th March 2021. It will be held with the theme of “Vocal for Local till 21st March, 2021. Artisans from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, etc have brought rare elegant and magnificent indigenous handmade products for sale and display.

11. PM Modi inaugurates Global Ayurveda Festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fourth edition of the Global Ayurveda Festival through video conference on 12 March 2021. This festival is being held virtually between March 12 and March 19, 2021. The festival will hold an all-time record in the number of delegates, the number of scientists presenting papers and the number of participating countries and institutions.

12. Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini dies

King Goodwill Zwelithini, the traditional leader of South Africa’s Zulu nation, passed away in March 2021. Zwelithini, the eighth Zulu king, reigned for more than 50 years, making him the longest-serving Zulu monarch. The Ingonyama Trust controlled by the king owns 29% of the land of the KwaZulu-Natal province, about 28,000 square kilometres, or 10,811 square miles.

13. India: 5th most attractive growth destination

India has emerged as the fifth most attractive growth destination, according to a global survey of CEOs. The US is the number one market that CEOs are looking to in terms of growth over the next 12 months and China is at the second spot. The findings are part of leading consultancy PwC’s 24th Annual Global CEO Survey that covered 5,050 CEOs in 100 countries and territories, including India.

14. Govt’s Atmanirbhar Niveshak Mitra portal

Government will soon launch ‘Atmanirbhar Niveshak Mitra’ portal for handholding and facilitation of domestic investors. To promote domestic investment, the Dept for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is in process to finalise the digital portal. Portal will be ready for launch by 15 May 2021. The webpage will also be available in regional languages and mobile App in due course.

15. India’s 1st dedicated express cargo terminal

Chief Commissioner of Customs of Bengaluru zone M Srinivas inaugurated India’s first dedicated express cargo terminal at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 12 March 2021. Cargo terminal works exclusively for the export and import of international couriers. The new facility will enable Bengaluru Airport to process 150,000 Metric Tonnes cargo capacity annually.

16. Mera Ration Mobile App launched

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution launched Mera Ration Mobile App on 12 March 2021. This app is for the benefit of those ration card holders who move to new places in search of livelihood (migrant workers). Under this facility, migrant workers can avail the subsidized foodgrains from any fair price shops across the country.

17. BRICS CGETI held under India’s Chairship

The 1st Meeting of the BRICS Contact Group on Economic and Trade Issues (CGETI) was held under India’s Chairship from 9th till 11th of March 2021. The theme of BRICS for 2021 is -“BRICS at 15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus”. India expressed views in BRICS in priority areas for deliverables, the scope of the MSME roundtable conference and BRICS Trade Fair.

18. China’s Ant Group CEO resigns

China’s Ant Group Chief Executive Officer Simon Hu has stepped down from his role on 12 March 2021. Hu will be replaced by company veteran and Executive Chairman Eric Jing. China’s Ant Group, as the fintech giant, is pushed by regulators to revamp operations after its failed $37 billion initial public offerings (IPO).

19. Iran to get 5,00,000 doses of COVAXIN

India will send 500,000 doses of COVAXIN to Iran. The first tranche of 125,000 doses of Indian vaccine COVAXIN reached Iran on 11 March 2021. Next week, Iran will receive 3,75,000 doses of Covaxin from India as part of the second such consignment. COVAXIN is an Indian COVID vaccine produced by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.

20. Indian Navy’s assistance to stranded vessel

The Indian Navy deployed INS Talwar on 12 Mar 21 to provide technical assistance to a stranded merchant cargo ship MV Nayan. The cargo ship, on transit from Oman to Iraq, was drifting at a sea since March 9 owing to failure of its propulsion, power generation machinery and navigational equipment. Naval teams worked onboard MV Nayan to operationalize its equipment and made it seaworthy again.

21. Conference on Jal Jeevan Mission to be held

Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be chairing a Conference of states and UTs Ministers on Jal Jeevan Mission on 14 March 2021. The Mission is a flagship programme of the Centre for providing tap water connection in every rural household by 2024. So far, more than 3.79 cr rural households have been provided with tap water connections.

22. Amrit Mahotsav exhibitions inaugurated

·Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar inaugurated Amrit Mahotsav exhibitions at six places on 13 March 2021. The 6 places are Bangalore, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Moirang district in Manipur and Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, he also inaugurated an exhibition at the National Media Center in New Delhi. Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav commenced on 12 Mar 21.

23. India supplies vaccines to nearly 70 countries

India has supplied over 5 crore 85 lakh doses of Made in India vaccines to nearly 70 countries till date. Out of the total, nearly 80 lakh doses have been supplied free of cost as grant aid to 35 countries whereas 1 crore 64 lakh doses have been supplied under the COVAX facility route to around 18 countries. India began its ‘Vaccine Maitri’ to supply vaccine to different nations in January 2021.

24. Ayya Vaikunda Swamikal’s birth anniversary

PM Modi paid tributes to Ayya Vaikunda Swamikal, a great thinker and social reformer of the 19th century, on his birth anniversary in March 2021. Ayya Vaikundar also known as Siva Narayana or Vaikunda Swami is the first and the foremost Purna avatar of Eka-Paran. Vaikundar was born to Narayana and his consort Lekhsmi at the Sea of Tiruchendur on the 20th of Masi, 1008 of Kollam Calender.

25. 4 nations to deliver 1 bn doses of vaccines

The leaders of the US, Australia, India and Japan have agreed to deliver one billion doses of coronavirus vaccine to much of Asia by the end of 2022. The joint commitment was made following the first leaders’ meeting of the Quad countries held on 12 March 2021. The vaccines are expected to be the single-dose Johnson & Johnson product that will be manufactured in India.

26. Five heads of state to be in Bangladesh

Five heads of state and heads of govt from the South Asian region will participate in the ten-day-long celebrations being organised on the occasion of the centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib and 50 years of liberation of Bangladesh. The 10-day long special programme will start on 17th March and conclude on 26 March 2021. The heads are from Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Cambodia.

27. INS Jalashwa reaches Antsiranana Port

INS Jalashwa reached the port of Antsiranana, Madagascar on 12 March 2021 with an Indian Naval training team on-board. The Indian Naval training team will be deployed in Madagascar for capacity building and training of the Malagasy Special Forces for two weeks. INS Jalashwa will leave for Comoros to deliver 1000 metric tonnes of rice and then will head to the Port of Ehoala in Madagascar.

28. Ramban develops mobile app named e-Suvidha

In Jammu and Kashmir, the District Administration, Ramban has developed a mobile application named e-Suvidha. It shall bring many public delivery services and departments on the digital platform. It will provide access to the people to all basic services like plumbing, electric works, masonry, carpentry and skilled jobs on a digital platform with a click on mobile phones.

29. Odisha to inoculate 1 lakh senior citizens

In Odisha, close to 78,000 beneficiaries were vaccinated against covid-19 on 12 March 2021. Over 47,000 senior citizens received the vaccines at 650 session sites across the state. The state government has targeted to inoculate one lakh senior citizens per day. The proactive measures taken by the state for covid containment include jacking up everyday sample tests.

30. Uttarakhand CM inducts 11 ministers

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat expanded his Council of Ministers on 12 March 2021. Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered the oath of office to 11 ministers at Raj Bhavan. Banshidhar Bhagat, Bishan Singh Chufal, Ganesh Joshi, and Swami Yatishwaranand are the new faces of Tirath Singh Rawat’s team, who took the oath. MLA from Gadarpur Arvind Pandey took the oath in Sanskrit.

31. LİDAR survey started on 12 March 2021

The Light Detection and Ranging Survey (LİDAR) survey for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the Mumbai-Nagpur High-Speed Rail Corridor started on 12 Mar 2021. An aeroplane fitted with state of art Aerial LIDAR and Imagery sensors took the first flight and captured the data related to ground survey. National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited is conducting this survey.

32. J&K EDI to start a certificate course

The J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) is set to start a one-week certificate course in digital marketing and entrepreneurship basics. The programme on “Entrepreneurship 101 aims to help entrepreneurs enhance their business knowledge and impart the basic skills to start a business venture successfully. The candidates can register/apply for the course on www.jkedi.org.

33.Haryana CM Manohar Lal presents budget

Haryana CM Manohar Lal who also holds the Finance portfolio presented budget estimates of Rs. 1,55,645 cr for the financial year 2021-22 in the house of Haryana Assembly on 12 Mar 2021. It is 13% higher than the revised budget estimates of 1,37,738 crore rupees. Out of the total budget, 25% i.e. Rs38,718 cr are for Capital Expenditure, while 75 per cent for Revenue Expenditure.

34. NewSpace India to own space assets of ISRO

The NewSpace India Limited, a subsidiary company under the Department of Space will own and operate capital intensive space assets of ISRO. This is a part of the space reforms process initiated in June 2020. The transponders on these satellites will be leased to the private companies with DTH and Broadband services.

35. SpiceJet to add 66 new flights

SpiceJet will add 66 new flights, including additional services on certain routes, to its domestic network from 28 March 2021. These new flights, which will be operated with Boeing 737s and regional jet Bombardier Q400s, are aimed at augmenting connectivity between metro and non-metro cities as part of its enhanced network. Jharsuguda will now be connected to Chennai.

36. ATC appoints Sanjay Goel as President

Telecom infrastructure provider American Tower Corp (ATC) has appointed Sanjay Goel as the President, Asia Pacific. Goel will take charge from 16 March 2021 and will succeed Amit Sharma, who has been the Chief of Asia Pacific since the start of India operations. ATC’s wholly-owned subsidiary ATC India started operations in 2007 and has about 76,000 towers installed across the country.

37. Govt to sell stake in Tata Communications

The Indian govt will exit its entire 26.12% shareholding in Tata Communications Ltd. It will sell a 16.12% stake through an offer-for-sale via stock exchanges. The remaining shares will be sold to Tata Sons Pvt’s investment arm Panatone Finvest Ltd. immediately after that sale. Panatone Finvest currently owns 34.8% of Tata Communications, while Tata Sons has a 14.1% stake in the company.
