1. National Women’s Day: 13 February

National Women’s Day in India is celebrated on 13 Feb every year. It is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu. She is one of the most recognized persons in the Indian freedom movement. She made history by becoming the first woman Governor in India. In 1947, she became the Governor of the United Province, which is now known as Uttar Pradesh

2. Assam’s interim budget presented

In Assam, Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the interim budget in the assembly on 12 Feb 2021. The Minister informed that the annual growth rate at 7.71% was higher against the national annual growth rate of 6.11% during the period 2016-17 to 2019-20. General Budget will be placed before September 30, 2021.

3. J&K joins hands with UK Space Agency

Jammu and Kashmir have joined hands with the UK Space Agency’s programme for collaborative projects on Impact Based Flood Forecasting using Earth Observation (EO) based Information. The National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) is a new programme established by the UK Space Agency which supports collaborative projects between UK organizations and international partners.

4. Goa CM flags off the campaign on COVID vaccination

A campaign on COVID Vaccination and Atma Nirbhar Bharat by Field Outreach Bureau, Goa, was flagged off by CM Dr. Pramod Sawant in Panaji on 12 Feb 2021. Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Swayampurna Goa campaign will help to make Goa self-reliant by 19 December 2021. The campaign will be done through Mobile Exhibition vans which will ply through North and South Goa.

5. Training for paperless Assembly Session in UP

The Uttar Pradesh govt is all set for paperless proceedings of the state legislature and to present paperless budget during the upcoming session of the state legislature from 18 Feb 2021. The legislature administration has started a 3-day training of members for paperless proceedings of the house. The initial knowledge of the iPad is also being given to all the members for paperless work.

6. Puligoru Venkata: CJ of Manipur High Court

President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice Puligoru Venkata Sanjay Kumar as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Justice Puligoru Venkata Sanjay Kumar is presently the Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The President has also appointed Pushpa Virendra Ganediwala as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court,

7. Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti: 12 Feb

12 Feb marks the birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj. Swami Dayanand Saraswati denounced the caste system and encouraged education and equal rights of men and women. He was a renowned scholar who promoted the Vedic philosophy and principles of karma and reincarnation. His mission in life was universal brotherhood and for this, he founded the Arya Samaj.

8. Upper ceiling for family pension raised

The upper ceiling for family pension has been raised from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 1,25,000 per month. The move will bring Ease of Living for the family members of the deceased employees and would provide adequate financial security to them. The highest pay has also been revised to Rs. 2,50,000 per month after the implementation of 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations.

9. PM Modi to inaugurate projects in Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tamil Nadu and Kerala on 14 February 2021. He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several key projects and hand over the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to the Army, at Chennai. This Battle Tank has been indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by DRDO along with 15 academic institutions, 8 labs, and several MSMEs.

10. Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill

Lok Sabha has given its nod to Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill 2021. The bill contains provisions to deal with domestic and international arbitration. It defines the law for conducting conciliation proceedings. It replaces an Ordinance with the same provisions promulgated on 4th November 2020.

11. the Second dose of the COVID vaccine administered

The second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is being administered to the healthcare workers from 13 February 2021. It will be given to those beneficiaries who have taken the first dose on the 16th of January 2021, the day when the world’s biggest immunization drive was launched. The second dose is being given after an interval of 28 days of the first dose.

12. Tejas AC sleeper coaches to be introduced

The Ministry of Railways has decided to replace the rake of Agartala – Anand Vihar Terminal Special Rajdhani Express with Tejas Sleeper coaches with upgraded facilities. It will offer better connectivity with the National Capital. Agartala Rajdhani Special train will run with special Tejas type Sleeper coaches from 15 Feb 2021.

13. Jual Oram launched book on economic awareness

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and MP Jual Oram has launched “Turn Around India: 2020- Surmounting Past Legacy”, a book on creating economic awareness among the masses. The book is written by RP Gupta. It provides viable options to revive the Indian economy to create new jobs, increase public revenues, and structural reforms to overcome the economic crisis due to pandemic.

14. Mastercard launched Priceless India

Mastercard launches Priceless India to showcase rich heritage to domestic, global travelers. The program will roll out in 2 phases. In 1st phase, It will launch 16 short films that will introduce several unique aspects of India’s most iconic cities destinations for tourists. In 2nd phase, cardholders will get a chance to partake in these experiences in real-time through curated packages.

15. Meghalaya Police signs MoU with SBI

Meghalaya Police signs MoU with SBI for implementation of the e-Challan within the jurisdiction of the Shillong Traffic Police(STP). The e-challan system will provide a digital traffic enforcement solution whereby imposing penalties on violators of traffic rule by generating challan. The System has been integrated with VAHAN & SARATHI applications to fetch the details of traffic violators.

16. SIDBI, COWE launched “Swavalamban sashakt”

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), along with the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs of India (COWE), has launched a campaign Swavalamban sashakt. The campaign is a 20 webinar series aimed at creating awareness and promoting the government’s Stand Up India scheme. SUI scheme aimed to facilitate bank loans between Rs 10L and Rs 1cr. to at least one SC or ST borrower.

17. Yuva Vigyan Puraskar

As many as 46 students were awarded the Yuva Vigyan Puraskar during a function organized by the Himachal Pradesh Science, Technology Environment Council. This scheme was started in 2018 to encourage students to take up science subjects, thereby motivating them to do research. Under this programme first 10 positions in the XII Faculty of Science in School Education Board examinations were awarded.

18. Mallikarjun Kharge: Next Leader of Opposition

The Congress has nominated Mallikarjun Kharge as the new Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Rajya Sabha. Incumbent Ghulam Nabi Azad’s term end on February 15, 2021. Congress President Sonia Gandhi informed Upper House Chairman Venkaiah Naidu about Mr. Azad’s replacement.

19. Marc Llistosella, new CEO & MD of Tata Motors

Tata Motors Ltd, India’s largest vehicle maker appoints Marc Llistosella as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of its India business. He will take a charge from July 1, 2021. Previously he was serving as President and CEO of Fuso Truck Bus Corporation and Head of Daimler Trucks in Asia. He will replace Guenter Butschek, who will work with Tata Motors till June.

20. NDB commits $100 mn to NIIF Fund of Funds

New Development Bank (NDB), the multilateral development bank established by the BRICS states, has announced a commitment of $100 million into the NIIF Fund of Funds (FoF). With NDB’s investment, the FoF has secured $800 million in commitments and joins the Government of India (Gol), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AllB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) as an investor in the FoF.

21. Tokyo Olympics Chief resigns

The President of the Tokyo Olympics Yoshiro Mori resigned on 12 Feb 2021. He was the President of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organizing committee. The event is scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. It was originally scheduled from 24 July to 9 August 2020 but was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

22. CAPF battalion to be named after Narayani Sena

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a new CAPF battalion that will be named after Narayani Sena, the warriors of the erstwhile princely state of Cooch Behar. The name of the CAPF training center for the eastern zone will be linked with Chila Roy, who was the younger brother of King Nara Narayan of the Koch Dynasty. A memorial at the birthplace of Panchanan Thakur will also be built.

23. Flipkart signs MoU with Maharashtra govt

Flipkart has entered into an MoU with Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC) and Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board (MSKVIB). The MoU will onboard local artisans and entities on the company’s flagship initiative Flipkart Samarth. The partnership will enable Maharashtra’s local artisans, weavers, and craftsmen to showcase their hallmark products.

24. Aditya Mittal appointed ArcelorMittal CEO

ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s biggest steel producers, has announced that Aditya Mittal would take over as the Chief Executive Officer from his father, Lakshmi Mittal. Lakshmi Mittal who would take on the mantle of Executive Chairman. Aditya Mittal was previously the President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company, and CEO of its European arm.

25. 40th INCA Congress concludes in Kolkata

The 40th International Congress of the Indian National Cartographic Association (INCA) concluded at Kolkata on 12 February 2021. It was held from 10-12 Feb 2021. The three-day meet organized by the National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO), of the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, had the focal theme of Digital Mapping Innovations in Make India Initiatives!

26. Government allocates for Rs. 500 cr for NBHM

The government has approved the allocation for Rs. 500 crores for National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) for three years (2020-21 to 2022-23). NBHM aims for the overall promotion and development of scientific beekeeping in the country to achieve the goal of ‘Sweet Revolution’ which is being implemented through the National Bee Board (NBB).

27. Priyanka Chopra’s new book

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has come up with her autobiography, title ‘Unfinished: A Memoir’. It was officially published on February 9, 2021. The book chronicles all the important moments of her life from winning the title of “Miss World” to her break in Bollywood, from the death of her father to her marriage to Nick Jonas. The book was released by Penguin Random House.

28. Financial Literacy Week concludes

The RBI had launched the Financial Literacy Week on the theme of Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions. It was observed from Feb 8-12, 2021. The 5-day event was launched by Ajay Kumar, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, New Delhi. The RBI has been conducting it every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a particular theme across the country.

29. Odisha Cabinet gives nod to REWARD project

The Odisha Cabinet has approved a proposal to implement ‘Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD)’ project. REWARD envisages an expenditure of Rs. 500 crore on science-based watershed management for a period of six years starting from April 2021. Out of this, the World Bank will provide loan assistance amounting to Rs 350 crore.

30. Bodo film “Sijou” bags four awards

A Bodo film, “Sijou” has bagged four awards at the Golden Sparrow International Film Festival 2021 in Tamil Nadu. It is written and directed by Vishal P. Chaliha, and produced by national award-winning filmmakers Preeyam Kherkatary Chaliha and Omprakash Kherkatary. It won “Best Director”, “Best Debut Filmmaker” “Best Screenplay Writer” and “Special Jury Award”.

31. World Radio Day: 13 February

World Radio Day is celebrated all over the world on February 13. The day aims at promoting the medium and encouraging people to use it. The World Radio Day 2021 theme is “New World, New Radio”. The day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011.

32. Amazon integrates pantry service with Fresh

Amazon India will be integrating its pantry service with instant grocery service Fresh across cities it operates in a bid to reduce the delivery time to consumers to 2-hour slots. This service will be rolled out to customers in Bengaluru, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mysore over the next two weeks and to all customers in cities where Fresh is serving, in the upcoming months.

33. Centre orders 41mn doses of Covid vaccines

The central government has placed supply orders amounting to a total of 41 million doses of both covid-19 vaccines- Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech International Limited. These supply orders also include 10 million doses received from Gavi support through the Covax facility. This was informed by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on 12 Feb 2021.

34. Anil Agarwal joins hands with Centricus

Anil Agarwal has announced teaming up with London-based firm Centricus to create a $10-billion fund that will invest in the stake sale of public sector undertakings. Centricus is a global investment firm. Agarwal is the executive chairman of Vedanta Resources. Vedanta Resources Ltd is a globally diversified natural resources company

35. Ajay Mathur to take over as ISA chief

Ajay Mathur, who heads the Energy and Research Institute, is set to become the next Director General (DG) of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). ISA, co-founded by India and France, is the first treaty-based international government organization to be based in India. Mathur is also a member of the PM’s Council on Climate Change and was earlier the DG of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

36. Govt procuring Covishield for only Rs. 210

The government is procuring each dose of Covishield vaccine for only Rs. 210 per from Serum Institute of India. The price of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine across the world is in the range of between $ 4 and $5.25. Meanwhile, for the COVAX AMC facility that supplies 191 participating countries, including European Union nations, the price is $3 per dose to $3.15 per dose.

37. Akanksha announces candidacy for Sec. General

An Indian-origin employee at the UN Akanksha Arora has announced her candidacy to be its next Secretary-General. Antonio Guterres is the current UN Secretary-General. Guterres’s first term ends on December 31, 2021, and the term of the next Secretary-General will begin on January 1, 2022. Akanksha is working as an audit coordinator for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

38. Indian film ‘Bittu’ shortlisted for Oscars

Indian short film Bittu has been shortlisted in the top 10 films under the Live Action Short Film category for the 93rd Oscar Awards. Indian filmmakers Shreya and Karishma dev Dube are producers and directors of this film. ยท For the short film category, it had received. 174 films out of which 10 films were shortlisted including Bittu.
