1. MI beat DC to win IPL for the fifth time

MI defeated Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the IPL 2020 final to win the IPL for a record-extending fifth time. MI, who had won IPL 2019 as well, became the second team after Chennai Super Kings to defend the title in IPL history. Notably, MI defeated DC in each of their four encounters in IPL 2020.

With MI’s IPL 2020 final victory, Rohit Sharma has now won IPL for a record fifth time as a captain and a record sixth time as a player. It was Rohit’s 10th T20 final win as a player, which is most by an Indian player. Further, it was also his seventh T20 final win as captain, joint-most by any player.

KL Rahul won ‘Orange Cap’ for scoring the most runs (670), while Kagiso Rabada won Purple Cap’ for taking the most wickets (30) in IPL 2020. Devdutt Padikkal won the ‘Emerging Player’ award, while Ishan Kishan won the award for most sixes (30). MI pacer Trent Boult was named ‘Power Player of the season’.

2. Rohit becomes 2nd player to play 200 matches in IPL history

Playing against DC in the IPL 2020 final on Tuesday, MI skipper Rohit Sharma became the second player to play 200 matches in IPL history. CSK skipper MS Dhoni holds the record for featuring in the most number of matches in IPL history. Dhoni has featured in 204 matches. Dhoni and Rohit are followed by Dinesh Karthik (196 matches)

3. PRSI Dehradun Chapter announces launch of book

Minister of Education, Indian Government, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank, announced the launch of the book, ‘Bharat Ki Navin Rashtriya Shiksha Niti 2020: Navyug Ka Abhinandan’, compiled by PRSI. The book is based on the new National Education Policy 2020. The book is available in 2 languages, Hindi and English and has been documented after conducting intensive study and research.

4. SAIL introduces shorter working period scheme

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has unveiled a scheme under which a majority of its around 72,000 employees will be able to opt for shorter working period against proportionate forgoing of salary benefits. Under the scheme, employees up to E-7 (general manager) grade can opt from various shorter working hours options like three days a week. The scheme, effective from November 1, 2020.

5. IIT alumnus launches Mission 10k Khushiyan

Anthill Creations – a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing play for all age groups of children has launched ‘Mission 10k Khushiyan’ campaign. Aimed to deliver 10,000 educational play boxes to provide underprivileged children opportunities to learn via structured games. ‘Play-in-a-box’ was designed keeping in mind the importance and role of ‘play’ in a child’s formative years.

6. Tata Steel, POSCO join forces for hyperloop

Tata Steel Europe and South Korea’s POSCO will collaborate to develop steel tubes needed for high-speed hyperloop transportation systems. They would develop high-quality steel grades needed for the huge vacuum tubes that allow high-speed transport using very little energy. POSCO has been conducting hyperloop related research such as feasibility, design and structural optimisation.

7. Father Carlos Valles passes away at 95

Father Carlos Gonzalez Valles, a Spaniard who was Gujarati by heart, passed away in Madrid, Spain at 95. He was born in Logrono on November 4, 1925 and had come to India and settled in Gujarat in 1949. Father Valles has authored more than 75 books which include Sadachar, Vyakti Ghadtar, Lagnasagar, Gandhiji ne Navi Pedhi, Parvotsav, Murli, Atmkathana Tukda and Shabdlok.

8. NeoBenk launches Global Partners Program

NeoBenk, a worldwide digital payment corporation, announced the launch of its Global Partners Program that spurs wider availability and mass adoption of digital assets. NeoBenk’s Global Partners Program is designed to enable a full range of financial solutions and infrastructure. NeoBenk announces a total reward distribution of $1 Million for celebrating its official launch on 20th November.

9. 1st BRICS Finance Ministers and CB Gov Meeting

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the 1st BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting. Under the Russian Chairmanship to discuss the BRICS Economic and Financial Cooperation agenda for 2020. Ms Sitharaman talked about outcomes and initiatives of G-20 Saudi Arabia in 2020 on the Finance Track and highlighted the role of BRICS members.

10. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gold & Silver coins

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha released Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gold and Silver coins ahead of Diwali for millions of devotees worldwide. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has developed 29, 5g & 10g Gold and Silver coins of guaranteed purity carrying an impression of the Holy Pindies.

11. India, Maldives sign four MoUs to boost ties

India and Maldives on 9 Nov signed four MoUs. Including on the Greater Male Connectivity Project with the Maldives foreign Affairs Minister Abdulla Shahid stating that India is “undisputed first responder, the best of friends, an invaluable partner”. Ceremony was attended by visiting Indian foreign Secretary Harsh Vardha Shringla and Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.

12. PM to unveil Swami Vivekananda’s statue at JNU

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil (through video-conference) the life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda installed in the university campus on November 12, at 6:30 pm. The unveiling of the statue will be preceded by a programme on Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda is one of the most beloved intellectuals and spiritual leaders India has been fortunate to produce.

13. Maharashtra govt orders release of RS 2,300 cr

Maharashtra Government ordered the release of almost 2,300 crore rupees as compensation for the state’s flood-hit farmers. This is the first installment from the ten thousand crore rupees relief package that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced. The compensation has been released for distribution in Nagpur, Aurangabad, Amravati, Pune, Konkan and Nashik divisions.

14. Uber launches ‘PIN-Dispatch’ feature

Uber has launched its ‘PIN-Dispatch’ feature at Delhi airport. The feature, which is already available at Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports, will be available at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. When riders request an UberGo at IGl International airport, they’ll receive a unique six-digit PIN which will be used to match them to the first available driver at the pickup zone.

15. Nepal President unveils pictorial anthology

A pictorial anthology on Mahatma Gandhi in the Nepali language was released on 9 Nov 2020 by President Bidya Devi Bhandari to mark his 151st birth anniversary. The book titled “Maile Bujheko Gandhi” or “the Gandhi as I understood,” was released at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Kathmandu. The book has been published by the Embassy of India along with the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation.

16. IOC director A K Singh to head Petronet LNG

Indian Oil Corp (IOC) director-pipelines Akshay Kumar Singh will be the new MD and CEO of the country’s biggest gas importer, Petronet LNG Ltd. Singh replaces Prabhat Singh who completed his five-year term on September 13, 2020. He was executive director at state-owned gas utility GAIL India Ltd before joining the IOC board in 2018.

17. Airtel Payments Bank ties up with Bharti AXA

Airtel Payments Bank has partnered with Bharti AXA General Insurance. It will offer comprehensive car insurance to the payments bank’s customers. The Smart Drive Private Car Insurance offers financial protection against damage to the vehicle due to accident, theft, and natural and man-made disasters. Customers can purchase the car insurance policy within 5 mins using the Airtel Thanks app.

18. S Hareesh wins JCB Prize for Literature

Malayalam author S Hareesh has won the coveted JCB Prize for Literature 2020 for his novel, Moustache. It has been translated in English by Jayasree Kalathil and published by HarperCollins India. Originally published as Meesha, S, the novel addresses a wide range of issues plaguing the society at large through the symbol of a moustache, which withholds connotations of both gender and caste.

19. 15th Finance Commission submits final report

The 15th Finance Commission presented its final report for the 5 fiscal years from 2021-22 to 2025-26 to President Ram Nath Kovind on 9 Nov 2020. The report was titled ‘Finance Commission in Covid Times’. It contained 4 volumes each pertaining to an area of the terms of reference of the FC. Volumes one and two contained the main report regarding the vertical and horizontal tax devolution.

20. Sanchaman Limboo passes away

Former Sikkim CM Sanchaman Limboo passed away in November 2020. Limboo was the fourth Chief Minister of Sikkim. He was Chief Minister in Sikkim for 179 days (June 17, 1994, to December 12, 1994) in the fourth assembly when he formed a Congress Government in the state which lasted for six months.

21. CSIR-SERC designs portable temporary shelter

The CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) has designed a portable, foldable temporary shelter with a roof, doors, windows and lighting using steel and insulation material. The shelter with 180 sq ft floor space can be used at construction sites, remote areas or to create makeshift hospitals. The 2.8 m tall module can be folded into just one-foot making it easy to transport.

22. Marg ERP and Paytm partner

Marg ERP has come together with Paytm to facilitate seamless transactions for MSMEs. Under this joint venture, the duo will empower MSME using this new integrated payments solution called MargPay developed by Marg ERP Limited. This technological advancement will reconcile payments efficiently in a cost-effective manner by enabling MSMEs to keep track of all their receipts and payments.

23. SCR develops software for online monitoring

South Central Railway has developed a new software prototype for integrated online monitoring of Linke Hofmann Bush coaches. The newly developed integrated online monitoring software will enhance the safety of train movements and will help in avoiding enroute detachments and extending the life of rolling stock parts. It has been developed by the in-house team of Tirupati Coaching Depot.

24. First agricultural commodity futures contract

Leading stock exchange NSE will launch its first agricultural commodity futures contract for crude degummed soybean oil on Dec 1, 2020. It will facilitate the soybean oils processing and allied industries in India and overseas. The contract is monthly expiry cash-settlednfutures contract with a trading lot size of 10 metric ton (MT) and price basis as Kandla.

25. PM Modi addressed virtual SCO summit

PM Narendra Modi lead the Indian delegation to the 20th Summit of SCO Council of Heads of States, which is being held virtually. The meeting was chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Heads of States of all 8 Member States, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were present at the meeting.

26. Government approves 21 projects

Government has approved 21 projects under the Scheme for Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition. The projects are worth 443 crore rupees supported with a grant of 189 crore rupees. These projects will benefit farmers and consumers and urged the officers to expedite the implementation of approved projects.

27. PM to inaugurate a complex of ITAT

PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the state-of-the-art office-cum-residential complex of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) at Cuttack on 11 Nov 2020. The Cuttack Bench of the ITAT was created and started functioning from 23rd May 1970. The jurisdiction of Cuttack Bench extends to the whole of Odisha. It was functioning in a rented premise for more than 50 years.

28. First coal mine auction to generate Rs 7000 cr

The first tranche of commercial coal mine auction was held from 2nd November to 9 Nov 2020. 19mines were auctioned which will generate revenue of 7000 crore rupees and it has a total peak rated capacity of 51 million tonnes. The mines are in Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The upfront amount will be 1,048 crore rupees.

29. FDSS developed by DRDO for buses

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh witnessed the demonstration of Fire Detection and Suppression System, FDSS developed by the DRDO for Passenger Buses at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi on 9 Nov 2020. The FDSS for passenger compartment comprises of a water tank of 80-litre capacity, and a 6.8-kg nitrogen cylinder pressurized to 200 bar installed at an appropriate location in the bus.

30. PM inaugurated projects in Varanasi

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 30 development projects in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on 9 Nov 2020. The projects for which foundation stones were laid include the redevelopment of Dashashwamedh Ghat and Khidkiya Ghat, barracks for PAC police force, redevelopment of certain wards of Kashi, redevelopment of a park in Beniya, etc.

31. Leh: 2nd meeting of UT-level Bankers Committee

In Leh, the Second Meeting of Union Territory-level Bankers Committee was held on 9 Nov 2020. Ladakh has the presence of five banks each in the public and private sector. Apart from these banks, J&K Grameen Bank, J&K Cooperative Bank and State Financial Corporation are also operating the business in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh.

32. Mayanglambam Singh: New MLA in Manipur

In Manipur, the new MLA of Kakching Assembly Constituency Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh has been sworn-in as Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. He was administered the oath at the Speaker’s Chamber by Speaker Y Khemchand. The oath-taking was attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other high ranking officials.

33. Brazil suspends Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine trial

Brazil’s health regulator has suspended a clinical trial for China’s Sinovac coronavirus vaccine citing a severe adverse event of death. The health regulator, Anvisa informed that the event took place on 29 Oct 2020. Sinovac’s vaccine is among the three experimental COVID-19 vaccines that China has been using to inoculate hundreds of thousands of people under an emergency use programme.

34. Tata to add international stocks in 3 schemes

Tata Mutual Fund has amended the scheme information documents (SIDs) for key mutual fund schemes to bring in international securities. The schemes affected include Tata Large Cap Fund, Focused Fund and Digital India Fund. The changes will be effective from 26 Nov/20. The amendments to SIDs will allow the fund house to take exposure to international stocks up to 20% of the scheme corpus.

35. A novel on transgenders

‘Rasaathi: The Other Side of a Transgender’ a novel by Sasindran Kallinkeel has been
released. The novel looks at the lives, customs, rituals and struggle of transgenders. Sasindran was with the Central Reserve Police for 23 years and hada seven-year stint with the Special Protection Group (Prime Minister’s Security). The book has been released by BookMitra.

36. Michael appointed MCC Foundation Patron

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding has been appointed as a new patron of Maryle one Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation.

In October 2020, actor, mental health advocate and cricket-lover Stephen Fry had joined the Foundation as a patron. The pair joins the list which also includes Claire Taylor, Mike Brearley, Mike Atherton, Mike Gatting

37. World Urbanism Day: 8 November

World Urbanism Day, also known as World Town Planning Day, is celebrated every year on November 8. The main goal of the observance is to recognize and promote the role of thorough planning in creating livable communities. In 1949, Professor Carlos Maria Della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires founded the international organization for World Town Planning Day.

38. World Science Day For Peace and Development

The World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) is observed annually on November 10. The day aims at raising awareness of the benefits of science worldwide. Following the World Conference on Science, UNESCO established the WSDPD through a proclamation at a general conference in 2001. The day was first celebrated on November 10, 2002.

39. Haryana government clears a Bill

The Haryana Assembly has passed a Bill which provides the right to recall members of Panchayati Raj institutions to those who electedthem and gives women 50% reservation in these rural bodies. The Bill also proposed 8% reservation to the “more disadvantaged” among the Backward Classes. The Bill is also aimed at enhancing participation of women in the three-tier
Panchayati raj system.

40. HDFC cuts home loan rates

HDFC has announced a reduction in its retail prime lending rate (RPLR) on housing loans, on which its adjustable-rate home loans (ARHL) are benchmarked, by 10 basis points. This comes into effect from 10 November 2020. New approvals of housing and non-housing loans by HFCs during September 2020 were at 130% of the previous period.

41. Nvidia signs deal with Hyundai

Nvidia has signed an In-Car Entertainment system deal with Hyundai Motors. Hyundai Motor will use the NVIDIA DRIVE in-vehicle information and entertainment system for all its Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models from 2022. The luxury vehicle division of Hyundai, Genesis, already uses NVIDIA DRIVE for its GV80 and G80 models.

42. Deutsche Bank to sell IT unit to TCS

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd has announced the acquisition of Postbank Systems AG, the technology services unit of Frankfurt-based Deutsche Bank AG. TCS will acquire the shares of Postbank Systems and absorb its 1,500 employees. Postbank Systems provides project management, application management and infrastructure support services to Deutsche Bank.

43. Novavax vaccine gets fast-track tag

Novavax Inc’s experimental COVID-19 vaccine has received a fast-track designation from U.S. regulators. The drugmaker is preparing to launch a large, late-stage study before the end of November 2020. Novavax has received $1.6 billion from the U.S. government’s Operation Warp Speed program to speed the development and manufacturing of coronavirus vaccines and therapies.

44. Prestige, Blackstone sign a deal

Prestige Group has signed a term sheet with global asset manager Blackstone Group Lp. It will sell five office parks, nine shopping malls, two hotels and four under-construction office complexes totalling 21 million sq ft. The deal value is close to ₹11,000 crores.
