1. India set to win as member of UNSC

India is set to get elected unopposed as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, on 17 June 2020 for a two-year term starting in January 2021. India along with Mexico and Kenya will get elected comfortably. The UN Security Council has 10 non permanent members in addition to the five veto-wielding permanent members–Britain, China, France, Russia and the US.

2. Assistive aids distributed to divyangjan

A Virtual ADIP Camp for free distribution of assistive aids and devices at Block level for Divyangjans under the ADIP scheme was organized at Talwandi Bhai Block of Firozpur district in Punjab on 15 June 2020. Total 95 beneficiaries of Block Talwandi were provided with 166 different categories of assistive appliances. 11 Motorized Tricycles were also distributed among the beneficiaries.

3. Composite Regional Centre inaugurated

The Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Thaawarchand Gehlot inaugurated Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in Ranchi on 17 June 2020. CRC-Ranchi will provide rehabilitation services including Physical medicine, Phys iotherpay, Occupational therapy, Audiology and Speech Therapy, Psychology, etc., to persons with disabilities in the state of Jharkhand and adjoining areas.

4. India to construct a facility in Nepal

India has pledged to construct a Rs 2.33 crore sanitation facility at the iconic Pashupatinath Temple complex here to improve the infrastructure for the pilgrims. The project would be constructed under the Nepal-Bharat Maitri: Development Partnership as a high impact community development scheme by India. A MoU in this regard was signed on 15 June 2020.

5. AIIB approved additional $750 million loan

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIB) has approved an additional $750 million loan to strengthen India’s COVID-19 response. The loan is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It will go towards bolstering economic aid for businesses, including for the informal sector, expanding social safety nets for the needy, and strengthening the country’s health care systems.

6. UP provided employment under MGNREGA

Uttar Pradesh has become the top state in the country to provide employment to the workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme MGNREGA. According to the data released by officials, 57 lakh 12975 workers got employment in around 57 thousand village panchayats of the state which is 18% of the total work generated under the MGNREGA in the country.

7. Workers welfare commission in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, a special commission has been set up for the employment generation and safeguarding the interests of workers. State Cabinet gave its nod to set up Uttar Pradesh workers welfare commission on 16 June 2020. Named as the UP Kamgar Shramik Sewayojan Avam Rojgar Aayog, the commission will have an executive board in which many ministers will be members.

8. Hima Das nominated for Khel Ratna Award

Hima Das has been nominated for the Khel Ratna by the state government of Assam. She is one of the youngest nominees for Khel Ratna 2020. She is India’s first track athlete to win a global title at U20 World Championship in Tampere, Finland in 2018. She will compete with Neeraj Chopra, Vinesh Phogat, Manika Batra, Rani Rampal and Rohit Sharma for country’s highest sporting honour.

9. CBIC launched e-Office

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has launched ‘e-Office’in over 500 GST and customs offices. It will help improve governance by automating the internal processes of handling files. The launch of the application marks a fundamental change in internal office procedures that are so far based on manual handling of files and paper movement.

10. Santosh Jha: Ambassador of India to Belgium

Santosh Jha has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Belgium He is presently the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The 1993-batch IFS officer will also be accredited as Ambassador of India to the European Union. In Vladivostok, he was Consul General of India during 19982000

11. NASA: 1st woman to head human spaceflight

Kathy Luders, who managed the inaugural private crewed flight into space in May 2020 has been promoted to become the 1st female head of human spaceflight. She has been selected to lead NASA’s Human Exploration & Operations Mission Directorate. Lueders oversaw the launch of 2 astronauts on a SpaceX rocket to the International Space Station, the first-ever crewed commercial flight into space.
